The potent Philadelphia Phranks nipped the Binghamton Brawlers in 10 innings 2
to 1 at Citizen's Bank Park in a hard fought contest.
 
Neither team managed to score in the first nine innings.  Finally,
Philadelphia pulled the game out in the 10th inning.  Luis Castillo led off
and he lashed a single.  David Wright was the next batter, but he struck out.
After another out, Vladimir Guerrero came to the plate and doubled resulting
in a run.  David Ortiz followed and he was walked intentionally.  Carlos Lee
came to the plate and laced a single making Philadelphia victorious to the
delight of the the home town crowd.  Binghamton had 10 hits in the game while
Philadelphia had 6, but Philadelphia had the more timely hits.  
 
Damaso Marte(2-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1/3 of an inning.
Trevor Hoffman(1-3) was charged with the loss in relief.  He pitched 2/3 of
an inning giving up 3 hits and 1 walk.

Dan Johnson had 2 base hits and 3 RBI as the Toronto Scrub AL1 beat the Cherry
Hill Maulers by a score of 6 to 3.
 
Toronto took the lead for good in the bottom of the 3rd inning with 2 runs.
After an out was recorded, Paul Konerko started the attack as he drew a walk.
Geoff Jenkins came next and he drew a walk.  One out later, Johnson stepped
in and he doubled which was good for two runs.  That was all the runs Jeff
Suppan(7-21) needed.  Toronto finished with 9 hits while Cherry Hill ended up
with 4.  
 
Suppan was helped out by Chad Cordero who recorded his 15th save. Carlos
Zambrano(14-9) absorbed the loss.  He pitched 8 innings allowing 9 hits and 4
walks.
 
Toronto now has a record of 55-96.  Cherry Hill has a record of 98-53 after
the loss.

Luke Scott hit a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Oakland Scrub AL2 defeated the
Minnesota SnowBirds by the score of 7 to 4 at Metrodome.
 
Cha Seung Baek(1-2) was reasonably effective in relief and got credit with the
victory.  He went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing 3 hits and 1 walk lowering his
ERA from 4.50 to 4.11.  Minnesota had 17 hits in the game while Oakland had
9, but Oakland had the more timely hits.  
 
Baek got help from Todd Jones who was credited with his 16th save.  Darren
Oliver(2-3) was the loser in relief.  He struck out 4 batters in 1 and 2/3
innings despite losing the game.

Mike Lowell had 4 hits and 3 RBI at Coors Field as the Pinehurst Pin Oaks beat
the Colorado Scrub NL2 7 to 5.
 
Pinehurst jumped on top of Colorado in the top of the 3rd inning when they
scored 2 runs on 4 hits.  The highlight belonged to Lowell who quieted the
crowd when he popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 21st of the season).
Pinehurst ended up with 16 hits for the game while Colorado had 11.  
 
Johan Santana(15-11) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 innings and
allowing 2 runs. Santana got help from J.J. Putz who earned his 37th save.
Julian Tavarez(7-11) was hit with the loss.

One run was the difference at PNC Park as the Sea Isle SeaGulls defeated the
Sunshine State Stalkers 9 to 8.
 
Heath Bell(5-1) slammed the door shut in an excellent relief performance.  He
was reached for no hits and 1 walk in 2 innings.  Sunshine State threatened
in the 9th but Sea Isle was able to put down the rally.  
 
Bobby Jenks gained credit for his 28th save.  Bob Howry(2-5) was the losing
pitcher in relief.  Joe Girardi was reflective after the loss, 'We should
have won this one, we just made one too many mistakes.  Son-of-a-gun, that
added a couple more white hairs on this noggin of mine.'

Todd Helton had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Atlanta Prohibitioners defeated
the hapless Washington Scrub NL1 by a score of 7 to 6 at Turner Field.
 
Greg Maddux(11-15) earned his pay with a solid performance for Atlanta.  He
surrendered 6 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings.  Washington had a chance in the
9th but they came up short.  
 
Maddux got help from Rafael Soriano who earned his 2nd save.  Bronson
Arroyo(11-17) took the loss.  He got hit hard, allowing 12 hits and 3 walks
in 7 and 1/3 innings.  
 
Bobby Cox was in a talkative mood in the clubhouse, 'Great game! If only we
could win all of the close ones - wouldn't that be nice! Since that's not
going to happen, I think I'll savor this one for a little while.'

Dan Haren had a strong outing as the Detroit 40's defeated the Yardley Oaks 6
to 3 at Comerica Park.
 
Detroit wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning scoring one
runner.  The Yardley bats were silent in the 9th.  
 
Haren(9-17) got the win allowing 2 runs in 7 innings. Jonathan Papelbon was
credited with his 41st save.  Fausto Carmona(14-13) was the losing pitcher.
He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 10 hits and 3 walks in 7 and
2/3 innings.  
 
With this win, Detroit has a 82-69 record.  They have been 5-5 lately.  With
this loss, Yardley has a 6-4 record of late, 87-64 overall.
