Binghamton came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning with 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Gabe Kapler started the rally when he laced a base-knock. After another out, Jeff Kent stepped up to the plate and he cracked a two-run shot (his 1st of the season) resulting in an exciting win for Binghamton and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans. For the game Binghamton out-hit Boston 13 to 6. The victory went to Carlos Villanueva(3-1) who went 1 and 1/3 innings, allowing no runs. Jesse Carlson(1-3) absorbed the loss in relief. By surrending 1 run without retiring a batter his ERA jumped from 3.90 to 4.20. Jerry Manuel was ebullient after the game, 'It's great to win a hard fought game like that. Washington scored the deciding run in the bottom of the 9th inning. Bobby Crosby drew a walk. Jeff Mathis followed and he delivered a single. Adam Kennedy then drew a walk to load the bases. After an out was recorded, Jim Edmonds stepped up to the plate and he drew a walk making Washington the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. Both teams finished the game with 11 hits. The winning pitcher was Aquilino Lopez(1-1) who allowed no runs in 2/3 of an inning. Joe Blanton(6-13) ended up with the loss. 'Thankfully we got ourselves a win', Lopez said. 'It's great to be back on the winning side of things.'
