The game was deadlocked at 2 after nine full innings. Pinehurst came out the victor in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Jeter hit a bases-empty home run. Evan Longoria stepped up next and he delivered a one-base hit. Ryan Howard was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out. Paul Konerko followed, but he was set down on strikes. Sea Isle could do no damage in the bottom of the 10th. The win went to Santana(2-2) who allowed 2 runs in the game. Clayton Richard(1-1) suffered the loss in relief. He pitched 4 and 1/3 innings giving up 5 hits and no walks. Santana, when asked about his 11 strikeout performance noted, 'The important thing is that we won, if I get 20 and we lose, what good does it do our team? But, on the other hand, since we won it feels great!' Atlanta started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of the first scoring 2 runs on 2 hits. Hanley Ramirez led off and started the attack as he doubled, and an error was also committed. David Wright stepped into the batter's box and he drew a walk. Manny Ramirez then was hit by a pitch. After an out was recorded, Matt Holliday came to the plate and singled to load the bases. Andre Ethier stepped into the box and hit a sacrifice fly. Atlanta rapped out 7 hits for the night. Jason Marquis(1-2) allowed 1 run in 8 innings, and picked up the victory. Adam Wainwright(1-2) ended up with the loss. He surrendered 7 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings. Yardley had the winning rally in the 9th inning with 3 runs using 4 hits. B.J. Upton opened up the inning nicely when he lined a base-hit. Upton was safe on a stolen base. Bobby Abreu then laced a one-base hit. Erick Aybar came up and he stroked a single. Adam Lind came to the plate and slapped a base-hit. Mark Teixeira contributed to the rally and hit a deep fly. One out later, Victor Martinez was a strikeout victim, unable to help out. Yardley managed 14 hits in their victory. The winning pitcher was C.J. Wilson(1-0) who allowed no runs in 1/3 of an inning. Joe Nathan got the save, his 3rd. Ramon Troncoso(0-3) was the losing pitcher in relief. He allowed 3 runs and 4 hits in 1 inning. Cito Gaston was not very talkative after his team's tough loss. Matt Cain(2-2) went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. Brian Bannister(0-3) absorbed the loss. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 9 innings of work. The win was credited to Duke(1-1) who went the whole way allowing 3 runs. The loss was charged to Ricky Romero(0-2). He was unable to control the Oakland offense and allowed 12 hits and 4 walks in 8 innings. Ryan Raburn was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day at their team's expense.
