Catcher Jorge Posada had 2 base hits and 3 RBI and Dan Haren allowed Jim
Leyland to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as the Detroit 40's
outscored the Toronto Scrub AL1 10 to 2.

Detroit promptly took the lead in their half of the first with 3 runs using 3
hits. Edgar Renteria opened up the inning nicely when he drew a walk. After
an out was recorded, Justin Morneau came up and he banged out a single.
Carlos Pena then doubled resulting in a run. Ryan Zimmerman was up next and
he would ground out plating another run. Posada stepped into the box and
doubled scoring the final run of the inning. That scoring would be all that
was needed. Detroit banged out 11 on the night.

The victory went to Haren(8-13) who went the distance allowing 2 runs. Mike
Mussina(8-9) was the loser. He was not very effective, surrendering 7 runs
in 2 and 1/3 innings.

The Detroit ballclub's record now stands at 69-52. With the loss, the Toronto
ballclub's record is 44-80, worst in the division.

Chad Gaudin dominated striking out 12 Cherry Hill batters at McAfee Coliseum
where the Oakland Scrub AL2 beat the Cherry Hill Maulers 4 to
0.

Gaudin(5-16) looked very much in control throughout the night. He didn't give
up much, just 2 hits and 4 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings. Oakland had 8 hits
for the night while Cherry Hill had 3.

Gaudin got relief help from Todd Jones who gained credit for his 13th save.
Daisuke Matsuzaka(8-9) was charged with the loss.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance of Gaudin - except Cherry Hill. Mike
Scioscia lamented, 'He just was 'on' tonight. He was keeping our guys off
balance all game. A fine game by a good strikeout pitcher - makes it a fun
game for the hometown fans - unfortunately we were the visitors!'
