In a great finish the Minnesota SnowBirds came back in the top of the ninth and held on to win over the Yardley Oaks by a score of 6 to 4 at Yankee Stadium. Minnesota came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning as they scored 4 runs on 3 base hits. The critical plate appearance was by Reggie Willits who deflated the mood of the partisan fans when he slapped a one-base hit plating two runs. Minnesota rapped out 7 hits for the afternoon. The win was credited to Alan Embree(1-1) who went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs. Francisco Rodriguez(1-5) was charged with the loss in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up 3 hits and 2 walks. Ron Gardenhire was feeling mighty fine as he answered questions in his office after the game, 'Now that was one fine ending! Did you see how the crowd just sat there in silence after the winning run scored? Here we are celebrating wildly, and the stadium is cloaked in virtual silence. Weird. but GREAT!'
