WEB GEMS- Bot 2nd: Philadelphia turns a triple play!

Brandon Phillips blasted 2 homeruns as the Philadelphia Phranks outscored the
Sea Isle SeaGulls 7 to 6.

Philadelphia jumped out to the early lead in the first inning as they scored 4
runs on 4 base hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Ryan Braun who
quieted the crowd when he blasted a two-run home run (his 35th of the
season). Sea Isle threatened in the 9th but Philadelphia was able to put
down the rally.

The victory went to Shawn Hill(10-0) who went 7 innings, allowing 5 runs. Hill
got help from Manny Corpas who was credited with his 7th save. Ted
Lilly(15-11) took the loss. He served up 5 gopher balls in 4 and 1/3
innings.

Philadelphia extended their winning streak to 6 games. 'We've really come
alive lately,' Charlie Manual said. 'We won some tough games and I feel real
good about this ballclub right now, and hopefully we'll continue the roll
we're on.'

floundering Washington Scrub NL1 by a score of 1 to 0.

Lackey(14-7) escaped virtually unscathed against the Washington hitters. He
allowed just 3 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings. Francisco Rodriguez pitched a
perfect ninth to earn his 28th save.

Lenny Dinardo(7-8) was the losing pitcher. He was the victim of a defensive
lapse and did not allow an earned run in the game.

Lackey was pleased with his performance. He noted, 'I had good zip on my
pitches. Just as important, my location was right on. The fans really got
into the game too - that always helps me. Now, if I can only do that again
in my next outing.'
