Akinori Iwamura started the inning off right when he doubled. Jeff Kent came next and he was hit by a pitch. Prince Fielder then doubled scoring a run. Franklin Gutierrez stepped in and he singled driving home another two teammates. Gutierrez took second on the throw. Detroit made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. The winning pitcher was Derrick Turnbow(2-5) who allowed 1 run in 1 and 1/3 innings. Jason Isringhausen was credited with his 28th save. Eric Gagne(1-3) suffered the loss in relief. He pitched 1 inning allowing 2 hits and 1 walk. When questioned about the loss, Jim Leyland said, 'The fans got to see an exciting game out there tonight. Unfortunately, we couldn't get it done this time. Next time, though, we'll be the clubhouse with all the smiles.'
