Cherry Hill went ahead for good in the 2nd inning when they scored 3 runs on 4 hits. The critical plate appearance was by Chone Figgins who made the home-town crowd a happy bunch when he doubled bringing in two baserunners. For the game Cherry Hill out-hit Oakland 13 to 9. Pinehurst came up with 2 runs in the 5th inning when they had 3 base hits. After an out was recorded, Hideki Matsui started the attack as he doubled. A.J. Pierzynski stepped into the batter's box and he doubled knocking in a run. Ichiro Suzuki then lined a base-hit scoring the final run of the inning. J.J. Putz earned the save with a perfect ninth, his 36th save. Johan Santana(14-11) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 innings and allowing 1 run. Paul Byrd(5-18) took the loss. He pitched 6 and 1/3 innings and surrendered 7 hits and 1 walk.
