The final score,, was 10 to 9. Toronto erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning with 3 runs on 3 hits. Lastings Milledge led off and keyed the rally when he banged out a single. Alexi Casilla next to the plate and he lined a single. One out later, Paul Konerko came up and he hit a deep fly. Geoff Blum followed and he drew a walk. Rod Barajas came to the plate and doubled. Toronto managed 12 hits in their victory. The win was credited to Jon Rauch(2-3) who went 2 innings allowing no runs. The losing pitcher was Jamey Wright(1-1) in relief. After the game, it took a long while before Clint Hurdle emerged from his office. In a subdued tone he answered only a couple of questions. He concluded with, 'Fellows, sorry I'm not in a very talkative mood tonight, as I think you'll understand. I'm sure you'll find the banter a lot more light-hearted over in the Toronto locker room.' Washington won the game with a run in the bottom of the 9th inning. After two were out Adam Kennedy lined a one-base hit. Lewis stole second with some aggressive base running. Mark Ellis then doubled resulting in an exciting win for Washington and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans. Overall Washington out-hit Oakland 6 to 3. Dennis Sarfate(2-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 3 and 2/3 innings and allowing 1 run. Jorge De La Rosa(2-2) was the losing pitcher in relief.
