In the 2nd inning Toronto went on top for good when they scored 3 runs on 2
hits.  The key at-bat was by Rod Barajas who made the crowd happy when he
belted a three-run homer (his 5th of the season).  Detroit threatened in the
9th but their rally came up short.  
 
Andy Sonnanstine(3-3) was the winner allowing 4 runs in 8 and 2/3 innings. The
losing pitcher was Gil Meche(3-2).  He allowed 3 homeruns in 4 and 1/3
innings of work.

Felix Hernandez went 8 strong innings as the Yardley Oaks defeated the Boston
Stranglers 5 to 2 at Yankee Stadium.
 
Yardley took the lead for keeps in the 5th inning when they tallied 2 runs on
1 hit.  The highlight belonged to Mike Napoli who brought the crowd to their
feet when he doubled bringing in two baserunners.  Yardley ended up with 8
hits for the game while Boston had 4.  
 
Hernandez(2-3) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 8 innings. Joe Nathan
gained credit for his 8th save.  The loss was charged to Daisuke
Matsuzaka(3-1).  He surrendered 3 runs and 4 hits in 4 and 2/3 innings.

the Binghamton Brawlers beat the Colorado Scrub NL 2 by the score of 8 to
4.
 
Binghamton tallied 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning with the help of 4
hits.  The big moment was provided by Carlos Ruiz who brought the crowd to
their feet when he hit a single scoring two baserunners.  Binghamton had 15
hits for the night while Colorado had 7.  
 
Ryan Dempster(4-1) allowed 4 runs in 7 innings, and picked up the victory.
Ryan Madson recorded the save, his 3rd.  Manny Corpas(1-4) was the losing
pitcher in relief.  He pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up 1 hit and 3
walks.
 
'Ahhh, how sweet it is,' Jerry Manuel sighed.  'That win feels like a tall,
cool drink of water after spending far too much time in the desert lately.'

Randy Johnson carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning at Turner Field as the
red-hot Atlanta Prohibitioners beat the Philadelphia Phranks 4 to
1.
 
Johnson(3-0) was simply too much for the Philadelphia batters.  He allowed
only 2 hits and no walks in 8 and 2/3 innings improving his ERA from 2.83 to
2.47.  The left-handed Johnson had his no-hit bid broken up by Alexei Ramirez
who doubled with two outs in the 6th inning.  The game was a scoreless duel
until the 6th inning.  
 
The losing pitcher was Ubaldo Jimenez(4-3).  He allowed 1 hit and 4 walks in 5
and 2/3 innings.

Weaver*(2-3) gave Minnesota a solid outing.  He didn't give up much, just 4
hits and 1 walk in 8 innings.  The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel
until the 7th inning.  
 
Mariano Rivera was credited with his 8th save.  Tim Redding(1-5) suffered the
loss.  He gave up 2 runs and 6 hits in 6 and 1/3 innings.
