Aaron Cook allowed Jim Leyland to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
and second baseman Dustin Pedroia had 5 hits and scored 3 times at Rogers
Centre as the Detroit 40's, running on all cylinders, ripped the Toronto
Scrub AL 1 by a large 15 to 3 margin.
 
Detroit had 7 runs cross the plate in the 6th inning when they had 4 base
hits.  The key offensive moment was provided by Jason Bay who silenced Rogers
Centre as he emptied the bases with a Grand Slam homerun (his 4th of the
season).  Detroit lit up the scoreboard in the 6th inning when they had 7
runs on 4 hits and the 9th inning with 6 runs on 5 hits.  Detroit rapped out
14 hits for the night.  
 
The win went to Cook(3-2) who allowed 3 runs in the game. Dana Eveland(1-3)
was given the loss.  He surrendered 5 runs and 6 hits in 5 and 1/3 innings.

Mike Jacobs blasted 2 homeruns as the Oakland Scrub AL 2 beat the Sunshine
State Stalkers by a score of 4 to 3.
 
Oakland won the game with a run in the bottom of the 8th inning.  Jacobs
delivered a solo blast (his 13th of the season).  After an out was recorded,
Ben Francisco came up and he smacked a single.  Yuniesky Betancourt then
grounded into a double play.  Oakland had 8 hits for the afternoon.  
 
The victory was credited to George Sherrill(1-2) who went 3 innings, allowing
no runs. David Bush(4-1) was hit with the loss.  He gave up 8 hits and 3
walks in 7 and 1/3 innings.

At Yankee Stadium, the Yardley faithful were treated to an intriguing
pitcher's duel.  Gavin Floyd(5-1) finally bested his Boston counterpart,
Shaun Marcum(3-4), by the score of 2 to 0.
 
Yardley brought 2 runs across the plate in the bottom of the 3rd inning with
the help of 4 hits.  That scoring would be all that was needed.  The pitchers
took over after the 3rd inning as neither team was able to score again.
 
Floyd was helped out by Joe Nathan who recorded his 9th save.  The losing
pitcher was Marcum.  Yardley now has a record of 19-13.  With the loss,
Boston has a record of 6-4 lately, 16-19 overall.

Binghamton scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning.  After an out was
recorded, Garrett Atkins opened up the rally as he banged out a single.
Carlos Lee stepped up next and he lifted one out of the park for a two run
home run (his 5th of the season).  Neither team managed to score after the
4th inning.  
 
Lohse(2-4) got the win allowing no runs in 7 innings. Chad Qualls earned his
4th save.  Kyle Davies(1-1) was the loser.  He was stingy with the
baserunners, allowing just 5 hits and no walks in 8 innings.

Tim Hudson pitched 9 strong innings as the blistering-hot Atlanta
Prohibitioners defeated the Philadelphia Phranks by a score of 6 to 1 at
Turner Field.
 
Casey Blake had a good evening at the plate.  He tripled which scored a run in
the 2nd inning, lashed a single in the 4th inning and smashed a solo-shot out
of the park (his 6th of the season) in the 8th inning.  Atlanta banged out 11
hits on the night.  
 
Hudson(6-1) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 1 run. The loss was
charged to Jamie Moyer(2-3).  He surrendered 11 hits and no walks in 8
innings.  
 
'He had his 'A' game tonight,' Bobby Cox said of Hudson.  'Very impressive
performance.'

Cliff Lee(5-3) had a solid outing for Minnesota.  He went 7 and 1/3 innings
allowing 8 hits and 3 walks lowering his ERA to 4.20.  Minnesota kept the
pressure on throughout the contest as they scored in 6 different innings.
 
Edwin Jackson(1-3) ended up with the loss.  He was touched for 4 homeruns in
his 7 and 1/3 innings of work.
