In a good matchup it was the Minnesota SnowBirds 7, the Boston Stranglers 5 at
Metrodome.
 
In the bottom of the 5th inning Minnesota scored 4 runs with the help of 4
hits.  The critical plate appearance was by Troy Glaus who brought the crowd
to their feet when he doubled which was good for two runs.  Boston made it
exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.
 
The win was credited to Jered Weaver*(3-3) who went 8 and 1/3 innings allowing
5 runs. Weaver* got help from Mariano Rivera who was credited with his 9th
save.  Daisuke Matsuzaka(3-2) was hit with the loss.  He couldn't find the
strike zone and allowed 7 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.  
 
'It was a tough one to lose' said Terry Francona 'We'll get them next time
out.'

Third baseman Aramis Ramirez hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI as the Cherry Hill
Maulers outscored the Detroit 40's in 10 innings 5 to 3.
 
Both teams were tied at 3 runs apiece after nine innings.  Cherry Hill was
victorious in the 10th inning.  Mark Derosa led off and started the attack as
he smacked a single.  Magglio Ordonez followed and he doubled.  One out
later, Miguel Cabrera stepped up to the plate and he hit a deep fly.  Ramirez
was up next and he lashed a single.  Cherry Hill totaled 11 hits on the
afternoon.  
 
C.C. Sabathia(4-3) allowed 3 runs in 9 innings, and picked up the victory.
Francisco Rodriguez earned the save, his 12th.  Jonathan Papelbon(0-1) was
the loser in relief.  Cherry Hill scored big getting 3 runs off him in 2
innings.  
 
'I just wanted to give my team a chance to win.' said Sabathia, 'I got burned
on a couple of pitches. But we won the game, and that's all that matters.'

Yardley Oaks won a dramatic crowd-pleaser over Oakland Scrub AL 2 at Yankee
Stadium pulling it out in their last at bats, 4 to 3.
 
The game was decided in the bottom of the 9th inning.  After an out was
recorded, Yunel Escobar laced a base-hit.  Denard Span stepped into the
batter's box and he hit a single.  After another out, Alex Rodriguez came to
the plate and delivered a single giving Yardley the win and sending the home
town fans into a frenzy.  Yardley had 9 hits for the night.  
 
The victory went to Matt Thornton(2-2) who went 3 innings, allowing no runs.
Brian Wilson(1-4) suffered the loss in relief.  The winning ways continue for
Yardley.  They now have a record of 8-2 in recent days.  With this loss,
Oakland has a 4-6 record of late, 12-28, worst in the division overall.

Designated hitter Jim Thome blasted a homerun and had 3 RBI and Joe Blanton
mowed down 10 Binghamton batters at Shea Stadium where the Colorado Scrub NL
2 beat the Binghamton Brawlers 6 to 2.
 
Blanton(3-2) was in control of the game from the outset.  He allowed only 2
hits and 4 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings lowering his ERA from 5.13 to 4.66.
Overall Colorado out-hit Binghamton 8 to 3.  
 
Ryan Dempster(4-2) was charged with the loss.  Blanton was humble when
questioned about his performance, 'Well, I felt pretty confident in my
pitches tonight.  But, I had great support behind me and I just threw what
was called.  That was an extremely well called game!'

Ben Sheets(2-3) pitched well for Sea Isle in their victory.  He went 7 and 2/3
innings allowing 5 hits and 1 walk lowering his ERA to 3.83.  Both teams
finished the game with 5 hits.  
 
Kerry Wood gained credit for his 8th save. Edinson Volquez(1-3) absorbed the
loss.  Although losing the contest, he whiffed 9 batters in 6 and 1/3
innings.

The Sunshine State Stalkers pitching coach might be looking for a new job
soon.  His team allowed 13 runs while Ubaldo Jimenez(5-3), with relief help
from Heath Bell, allowed Sunshine State 4 runs in a laugher.
 
Jimenez was solid if not spectacular.  He was reached for 8 hits and 7 walks
in 7 and 1/3 innings.  Philadelphia simply wore out the Sunshine State
pitching staff, scoring in 6 different innings.  
 
Scott Baker(2-5) was the loser.  He was hit hard and gave up 11 hits and 2
walks in 4 innings.

Jacoby Ellsbury had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Pinehurst PinOaks defeated
the Washington Scrub NL 1 by a score of 9 to 1 at Nationals Park.
 
Pinehurst went ahead for good in the top of the 2nd inning scoring a single
run.  Pinehurst banged out 11 hits on the night.  
 
The winning pitcher was Adam Wainwright(1-4) who allowed 1 run in 5 and 2/3
innings. Randy Wolf(2-4) took the loss.  He allowed Pinehurst 7 runs in 3
innings of work.

Third baseman Casey Blake had 2 base hits and 2 RBI and Chad Gaudin had a
strong outing at Rogers Centre as the Atlanta Prohibitioners beat the Toronto
Scrub AL 1 by the count of 5 to 2.
 
Randy Johnson(4-0) contributed a pedestrian performance to earn the win.  He
was reached for 5 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings.  Atlanta finished with 9
hits while Toronto ended up with 5.  
 
Brian Fuentes earned the save, his 13th.  Bronson Arroyo(2-4) was charged with
the loss.  The winning ways continue for Atlanta.  They now have a record of
8-2 in recent days.  With the loss, the Toronto ballclub's record is 17-23,
worst in the division.
