Barry Zito(2-5) and Andy Sonnanstine(3-5) treated the Oakland fans to a fine
pitching duel at McAfee Coliseum. The Oakland Scrub AL 2 eventually emerged
as victors over the Toronto Scrub AL 1 by the score of 1 to 0.

Oakland scored what proved to be the only run of the contest in the bottom of
the 5th inning. After an out was recorded, Mark Teahen reached on an error.
Yuniesky Betancourt stepped up next and he tripled. Toronto threatened in
the 9th but their rally came up short.

George Sherrill recorded his 5th save. Cito Gaston was clearly disappointed
after the game. 'It was a manager's nightmare out there', he said, 'We
should have had this one.'

One run was the difference at Nationals Park as the Washington Scrub NL 1
defeated the Colorado Scrub NL 2 4 to 3.

Washington took the lead for good in the bottom of the 3rd inning scoring one
runner. After an out was recorded, Jeff Mathis smashed a bases-empty
'big-fly' (his 3rd of the season). Washington had just 6 hits for the night.

The victory was credited to Nick Blackburn(3-5) who went 5 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 1 run. Francisco Cordero earned his 7th save. Tim Wakefield(1-5)
was charged with the loss.

The Washington ballclub's record now stands at 17-26. Still in a bad slump,
with this loss, Colorado is 2-8 lately and 12-34, worst in the division on
the year.
