Third baseman Garrett Atkins hit 2 doubles and had 3 RBI as the Binghamton
Brawlers rallied impressively to win in dramatic style over woeful Toronto
Scrub AL 1, 4 to 3.

Binghamton erupted with the game winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning
scoring 2 runs using 2 hits. Aaron Rowand led off and started the rally when
he was hit by a pitch. Gabe Kapler came next and he doubled. Carlos Ruiz
was the next batter, but he struck out. Jose Reyes was up next and he was
walked intentionally to load the bases. After another out, Atkins stepped in
and he doubled giving Binghamton the win and sending the home town fans into
a frenzy. Binghamton had 9 hits for the night.

Carlos Villanueva(2-0) allowed no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Jon Rauch(4-5) was the loser in relief. He gave up 3 hits and 1
walk in 2 and 2/3 innings.

'Now there is a lesson in perseverance for you,' Atkins noted. 'It was
looking pretty dim there for a while, but we just kept plugging away and it
really paid off in spades! And it was great to see the crowd go crazy there
at the end!'

The Colorado Scrub NL 2 nipped the Cherry Hill Maulers 4 to 3 at US Cellular
Field in a hard fought contest.

Zach Duke(4-14) had a fairly solid outing. He went 7 and 1/3 innings
surrendering 12 hits and 2 walks. Cherry Hill made it exciting in the 9th,
but they were unable to push the needed runs across.

Duke got help from Manny Corpas who earned his 4th save. Grant Balfour(4-2)
suffered the loss in relief. He was not very effective, surrendering 3 runs
in 2 innings.

'We won because we did the little things right.' Clint Hurdle said after the
game. 'This is why we practice things over and over and over, so when we get
in close games we don't make mistakes.'
