The Pinehurst PinOaks nipped the Boston Stranglers 4 to 3 at Fenway Park in a
hard fought contest.
 
Boston surrendered all of the runs Pinehurst needed in the 7th inning scoring
4 runners on 4 hits.  The critical plate appearance was by Jacoby Ellsbury
who silenced the crowd when he laced a one-base hit plating two runs.  John
Lackey(7-5) was helped out by Ramon Ramirez who pitched a perfect ninth and
recorded his 6th save.  
 
J.P. Howell(4-4) ended up with the loss in relief. He pitched 3 innings giving
up 3 hits and no walks.

At Rogers Centre the league door-mat Toronto Scrub AL 1 were battered 12 to 5
by the very talented Cherry Hill Maulers.
 
Manny Ramirez provided the offensive punch.  He lost the ball over the fence
for three runs (his 31st of the season) in the 1st inning and laced a
base-knock which was good for two runs in the 5th inning.  Cherry Hill had 14
hits overall, while Toronto had 9.  
 
The victory went to Roy Oswalt(6-6) who went 7 innings, allowing 4 runs. The
losing pitcher was Bronson Arroyo(3-14).  He allowed Cherry Hill 6 runs in 3
and 1/3 innings of work.

In a game for the baseball purist, Cliff Lee(13-4) and Javier Vazquez(1-12)
squared off in a tense pitching duel, Minnesota SnowBirds finally emerged
victorious over Oakland Scrub AL 2, 3 to 0.
 
Lee pitched a fine game.  He surrendered 8 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 2/3
innings.  Lee struckout 7 Oakland batters.  Mariano Rivera, after tossing a
perfect ninth, was credited with his 23rd save.  
 
Minnesota extended their winning streak to 6 games.

The Sunshine State Stalkers offense put up 4 runs on the scoreboard in the 5th
inning and defeated the Philadelphia Phranks by a score of 7 to 4 at Dolphins
Stadium.
 
David Bush(11-6) pitched well enough to earn the win.  He went 7 and 2/3
innings allowing 9 hits and 4 walks.  Both teams finished the game with 9
hits.  
 
Bush got help from Carlos Marmol who was credited with his 10th save.  Jamie
Moyer(7-10) was hit with the loss.  He gave up 4 runs and 3 hits in 4 and 2/3
innings.

The indomitable Wall St Millionaires defeated the Binghamton Brawlers by a
score of 4 to 1 at Shea Stadium.
 
Wall St had 2 runs cross the plate in the 3rd inning when they had 3 base
hits.  That was all the offense they were to need.  Wall St out-hit
Binghamton for the game, 12 hits to 5.  
 
Todd Wellemeyer(9-5) allowed 1 run in 7 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Wellemeyer got help from Matt Capps who earned his 15th save.  John
Lannan(10-7) suffered the loss.  He was knocked around by Wall St, allowing
11 hits and 5 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.

56,263 fans were treated to a fine game at Yankee Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end.  The Yardley Oaks won by the slimmest
of margins, 4 to 3.
 
The game was decided in the bottom of the 8th inning. Alex Rodriguez lofted a
solo-blast 'downtown' (his 18th of the season).  Two outs later Jermaine Dye
came to the plate and stroked a base-hit.  Seth McClung then unleashed a wild
pitch.  Lance Berkman came up and he was walked intentionally.  Kelly
Shoppach got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim.  Washington went
down quietly in the 9th.  
 
Joba Chamberlain(7-6) got the win allowing no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings. Joe
Nathan got the save, his 24th.  McClung(2-4) was hit with the loss in relief.
 
Yardley now has a record of 52-43.  Washington has a record of 37-60, worst in
the division after the loss.

At PNC Park, the Sea Isle faithful were treated to an intriguing pitcher's
duel.  Paul Maholm(14-3) finally bested his Colorado counterpart, Zach
Duke(4-15), by the score of 1 to 0.
 
The game's only run was scored in the 5th inning.  After an out was recorded,
Johnny Damon tripled.  Ryan Spilborghs was next and he hit a sacrifice fly.
Chase Utley then was hit by a pitch.  Chipper Jones followed and he laced a
single.  Sea Isle had a total of 7 hits for the game.  
 
Kerry Wood was credited with his 32nd save.  Duke was the loser.  He pitched 8
innings allowing 7 hits and 3 walks.
