Cole Hamels had a strong outing as the mighty Sea Isle Seagulls beat the
Minnesota SnowBirds by a score of 2 to 0.

In the top of the 2nd inning Sea Isle went on top for good scoring a single
run on 2 hits. Chipper Jones lined a one-base hit. After an out was
recorded, Hamilton got a great jump and stole second easily. J.J. Hardy
followed, but he was set down on strikes. Adam Laroche came up and he
delivered a base-hit. Mike Cameron struck out, unable to help the rally.
That early run support was enough for Hamels(8-6) and Sea Isle. The pitchers
took over after the 4th inning as neither team was able to score again.

Kerry Wood was credited with his 37th save. Matt Garza(10-12) was charged
with the loss. He pitched 8 and 2/3 innings giving up 5 hits and 5 walks.

In a two run game the Toronto Scrub AL 1 got by the ice-cold Oakland Scrub AL
2 by the score of 7 to 5.

Toronto scored 5 runs in the 5th inning with the help of 3 hits. The crucial
at-bat was provided by Jack Cust who helped quiet the crowd when he quieted
the crowd by clouting a Grand Slam (his 21st of the season). Toronto won
despite being out-hit by Oakland 12 hits to 7.

Andy Sonnanstine(7-9) picked up the victory, allowing 5 runs in 5 and 1/3
innings. Sonnanstine got help from Manny Parra who was credited with his 2nd
save. Greg Maddux(4-10) was charged with the loss. He was not very
effective, surrendering 6 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings.

'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' Cito Gaston said after the game. 'Sonnanstine did not have
command of his pitches most of the afternoon, but he proved he really knew
how to pitch!'
