Third baseman Garrett Atkins slammed a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Binghamton Brawlers beat the Sea Isle Seagulls by a score of 5 to 4. Jorge Campillo(5-9) was credited with the win in a less than impressive performance. He gave up 3 runs, 6 hits and 4 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings and allowed 2 gopher balls. Sea Isle made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. Chad Qualls got the save, his 11th. Paul Maholm(11-2) took the loss. He was not very effective, surrendering 5 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings. John Russell was in a sour mood after the game. 'Even you guys up in the press box know why we lost this game. We made too many mistakes.' Colorado scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning when they tallied 4 runs on 3 hits. The highlight belonged to Thome who electrified Coors Field when he lofted a three-run bomb (his 21st of the season). Colorado had a total of 9 hits for the game. Josh Rupe(2-2) got the win allowing no runs in 3 innings. Francisco Cordero(4-5) ended up with the loss in relief. Clint Hurdle was all smiles after the ballgame, 'It sure was looking pretty dim there for a while, but our guys never gave up - and neither did our fans - they kept cheering us on. What a sweet win!'
