Third baseman Evan Longoria went yard as the Pinehurst PinOaks defeated the
Philadelphia Phranks 4 to 3 at Rogers Centre.

Pinehurst drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning
plating an isolated run. Philadelphia threatened in the 9th but their rally
came up short.

The victory was credited to Gavin Floyd(1-0) who went 7 and 1/3 innings,
allowing 1 run. Floyd got relief help from Mariano Rivera who gained credit
for his 1st save. Wandy Rodriguez(0-1) was the losing pitcher.

Charlie Manual was subdued when questioned after the game, 'Sure, this kind of
loss takes a while to get over, but heck, we're all professionals. We've
been through this many times - it's the nature of the game. We'll be fine -
as for me - I'll be ready to go again tomorrow!'

First baseman Carlos Pena smacked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI at US Cellular
Field as the Cherry Hill Maulers beat the Sea Isle Seagulls 8 to 6.

Pena enjoyed a great evening at the plate. Every time he came up in the
latter innings, the crowd was on their feet cheering. He smashed a
bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 2nd inning, doubled knocking in a run in the 5th
inning and belted a three-run homer in the 8th inning. Cherry Hill had a
total of 10 hits for the game.

The win was credited to Daniel Bard(1-0) who went 1 inning allowing no runs.
Bard was helped out by Heath Bell who recorded his 2nd save. Jonathan
Broxton(0-1) was charged with the loss in relief. He allowed 3 runs and 2
hits without retiring a batter.

'Pena led the way - we just jumped on his back and let him take us,' Bard
said. 'I'm glad I don't have to face him. I'm glad he's on my team.'
