Minnesota brought 4 runs across the plate in the 2nd inning when they had 4 base hits. That early scoring was all that Max Scherzer(10-7) needed. Oakland threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short. Scherzer got relief help from David Aardsma who gained credit for his 9th save. Brett Cecil(6-10) was charged with the loss. He was knocked around, surrendering 7 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings. Detroit came up with 3 runs in the 5th inning when they came up with 5 base hits. Andruw Jones got things going when he doubled. Bill Hall came to the plate and doubled. After an out was recorded, Dustin Pedroia stepped up to the plate and he slapped a base-hit. Marco Scutaro stepped in and he delivered a single. Coco Crisp came up to bat and doubled. Detroit had many opportunities throughout the game and scored in 6 separate innings. Derek Holland(2-3) went 4 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Koji Uehara got the save, his 3rd. Tim Stauffer(3-3) was the loser in relief. He was unable to control the Detroit offense and allowed 8 hits and 2 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings. Wall St went ahead for good in the top of the 3rd inning as they scored 2 runs on 3 base hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Andrew McCutchen who deflated the crowd as he blasted a two-run home run. Wall St dominated offensively as they scored in 6 different innings. The victory went to Matt Cain(7-8) who went 8 and 2/3 innings, allowing 5 runs. Chris Perez recorded the save, his 15th. Cole Hamels(7-9) was tagged with the loss. He served up 3 gopher balls in 6 innings. Wall St remained hot, improving their record to 60-41. They now have a record of 8-2 in recent days. With this loss, Sea Isle has a 5-5 record of late, 56-45 overall. The game was deadlocked at 6 after nine full innings. Finally, Boston pulled the game out in the 12th inning. Mike Aviles lofted a solo-blast 'downtown'. Boston had 16 hits overall, while Yardley had 13. The win went to Andrew Bailey(4-2) who allowed 2 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings. Neftali Feliz(4-2) suffered the loss in relief. 'Wow. That's about all I can think to say.' said Bob Geren following the victory. 'If ever a team needed a win, it was us.'

Cincinnati surrendered all of the runs Sunshine State needed in the 1st inning when they came up with 3 runs on 3 hits. That was all the runs Brett Myers(9-7) needed. Heath Bell pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 28th save. Randy Wolf(1-9) took the loss. He surrendered 5 hits and 4 walks in 8 innings. The Washington Alouettes put a halt to their 6 game losing streak and won by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2. Bruce Chen(2-12) had a solid outing for Washington. He surrendered 6 hits and 4 walks in 7 innings. Washington totaled 9 hits on the afternoon. Huston Street earned his 11th save. Bronson Arroyo(7-12) ended up with the loss. 'Thankfully we got ourselves a win', Chen said. 'It's great to be back on the winning side of things.' Philadelphia took the lead for good in the bottom of the 6th inning scoring a single run utilizing 2 base hits. Philadelphia ended up with 14 hits for the game while Baltimore had 8. Madison Bumgarner(10-2) got the win allowing 5 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings. Bumgarner was helped out by Billy Wagner who recorded his 26th save. John Lackey(4-14) was hit with the loss. He was touched for 14 hits and 4 walks in 8 innings. Philadelphia continued their winning ways, with their streak now at 6 games and counting.
