Beltre enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He ripped a solo home run in the 1st inning, smacked a single in the 6th inning and cracked a solo homerun in the 7th inning. Boston simply wore out the Baltimore pitching staff, scoring in 6 different innings. Trevor Cahill(9-5) got the win allowing 1 run in 5 and 2/3 innings. Cahill got help from Jonathan Papelbon who was credited with his 4th save. The loss was charged to Joe Saunders(2-13). The critical plate appearance was by Longoria who excited the crowd when he blasted a two-run home run. Toronto had 12 hits for the game and Atlanta had 6. Doug Fister(6-8) went 6 and 2/3 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. Brandon League earned the save, his 1st. Anibal Sanchez(9-7) took the loss. He pitched 5 and 1/3 innings giving up 10 hits and 1 walk. Both teams had scored 7 runs after nine full innings. Detroit came out on top in the 12th inning. After an out was recorded, John Buck delivered a solo blast. One out later, Michael Young stepped up to the plate and he drew a walk. Detroit had 14 hits overall, while Yardley had 10. Phil Coke(3-0) went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the win. The losing pitcher was Matt Thornton(2-3) in relief. He pitched 2 innings allowing 1 hit and 1 walk. Albert Pujols enjoyed a big day at the plate. He stroked a base-hit knocking in a run in the 3rd inning, banged out a single in the 7th inning and caught a hold of a fastball for a Grand Slam homerun in the 8th inning. Wall St ended up with 13 hits for the game while Sunshine State had 10. Luke Gregerson earned his 6th save. Hiroki Kuroda(9-6) absorbed the loss. He gave up 5 runs and 9 hits in 7 innings. Wigginton made sure the Washington fans enjoyed themselves. He tripled scoring a run in the 2nd inning, popped a two-run clout over the fence in the 4th inning and doubled in the 8th inning. Washington finished with 9 hits in the victory. Mark Buehrle(6-10) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings. Buehrle got help from Huston Street who earned his 10th save. Randy Wells(6-9) was given the loss.
PHILADELPHIA AT COLORADO Phranks......... 2 2 0 1 0 0 0 0 2 - 7 10 0 Eskimos......... 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 0 - 2 8 1 Win:Hanson(8-5) Loss:Wainwright(8-6) Save:Kuo(3rd) Homeruns- D.Uggla-2(20th), R.Barajas(13th), A.Dunn(20th) Dan Uggla blasted 2 homeruns and Tommy Hanson racked up an impressive total of 10 strikeouts as the blistering-hot Philadelphia Phranks defeated the Colorado Eskimos by a score of 7 to 2 at Coors Field. Hanson(8-5) pitched a solid game. He surrendered 7 hits and 3 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings. Philadelphia banged out 10 hits on the night. Hong-Chih Kuo preserved the game for Hanson, recording his his 3rd. Adam Wainwright(8-6) was hit with the loss. Despite the loss, he struckout 11 Philadelphia batters in 8 innings. Hanson, when asked about his 10 strikeout performance noted, 'The important thing is that we won, if I get 20 and we lose, what good does it do our team? But, on the other hand, since we won it feels great!' Cherry Hill claimed the early lead in the first inning with 2 runs utilizing 3 base hits. After an out was recorded, Brett Gardner got things rolling when he laced a single. Cabrera followed and he doubled. One out later, Carl Crawford came up and he ripped a base-knock. That early run support was all that Greinke(7-8) required. For the game Cherry Hill out-hit Oakland 10 to 3. The losing pitcher was Jake Westbrook(3-15). Cherry Hill won for the 8th straight time.
