Hunter enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He emptied the bases with a Grand Slam homerun in the 1st inning and lined a one-base hit in the 4th inning. Minnesota finished with 14 hits in the victory. Colby Lewis(5-11) got credit for the victory, pitching 5 and 2/3 innings and allowing 2 runs. David Aardsma recorded the save, his 8th. Mat Latos(9-6) absorbed the loss. The final score was 5 to 3. Jason Vargas(8-7) gave Detroit a solid outing. He went 7 innings allowing 7 hits and 2 walks. Detroit had only 6 hits for the game. Phil Coke recorded his 3rd save. Chris Volstad(2-9) suffered the loss. The winning ways continue for Detroit. They now have a record of 9-1 in recent days. Baltimore continued their losing ways and their record is now 21-69, worst in the division. They are 1-9 in their last ten games. Floyd(4-12) was on top of his game. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 3 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings. Washington had 14 hits for the night. Matt Garza(6-9) was tagged with the loss. He allowed 8 hits and 1 walk in 5 innings. 'Our guys just weren't seeing the ball tonight.' Bob Geren said. 'Floyd simply dominated us.' Jason Hammel(5-12) contributed a pedestrian performance to earn the win. He surrendered 8 hits and 3 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings. Both teams' bats went to sleep after the 4th inning with no runs scored after that point. Jonathan Broxton earned his 2nd save. Tim Hudson(13-6) was charged with the loss. He was knocked around by Oakland, allowing 10 hits and 3 walks in 7 and 1/3 innings. 'I struggled a bit out there tonight,' Hammel said, 'but I toughed it out and we got the win.' The game was deadlocked at 2 after nine full innings. Sunshine State won the hard fought contest in the 10th inning. James Loney doubled. Two outs later Dexter Fowler came up and he doubled making Sunshine State the winners and sending the 35,616 fans home happy. Sunshine State totaled 8 hits on the night. The win went to Jimenez(13-3) who allowed 2 runs in the game. Jon Garland(5-9) took the loss. He gave up just 3 runs and 7 hits in 9 innings. Jim Tracy was upset after the game. 'I don't like to complain but did you see that umpires strike zone?', he said. 'Maybe they ought to start calling the strike zone the way it's printed in the rule book.'

Yardley erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning with 2 runs on 2 hits. Daric Barton led off the inning for Yardley when he stroked a one-base hit. A.J. Pierzynski came to the plate and laid down a sacrifice bunt. After another out, Ryan Sweeney came to bat and tripled. Dusty Hughes then tossed a pitch that the catcher mis-handled. Yardley rapped out 8 hits for the afternoon. Hernandez(10-8) allowed 2 runs on the game. The loss was charged to Tom Gorzelanny(2-6) in relief. He gave up 1 hit and no walks in 2/3 of an inning. 'That was exciting!,' Bautista said. 'I would have paid money to watch this one.' Ryan Braun provided much of the offense. He cracked a solo homerun in the 2nd inning and doubled with all three runners coming home in the 7th inning. Philadelphia ended up with 10 hits for the game while Toronto had 7. The win was credited to Tim Lincecum(8-5) who went 8 innings allowing 4 runs. Billy Wagner was credited with his 22nd save. Kevin Gregg(3-2) was hit with the loss in relief. The Cherry Hill fans enjoyed the offense provided by Rodriguez. He belted a three-run homer in the 6th inning and blasted a solo shot in the 8th inning. Cherry Hill out-hit Atlanta for the game, 17 hits to 8. Roy Halladay(13-7) went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing 3 runs for the victory. The losing pitcher was Chad Billingsley(4-10). He was hit hard and gave up 9 hits and 5 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings. Cherry Hill remained hot, improving their record to a division leading 60-32. They now have a record of 10-0 in recent days. With the loss, Atlanta has a record of 4-6 lately, 41-49 overall.
