The game started off with Colorado taking the lead in the first plating 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits. Jayson Werth started the attack as he smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly'. Jim Edmonds got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. One out later, Pat Burrell came to bat and clubbed a solo home run. Colorado banged out 8 hits on the night. Jon Garland(9-9) went 7 and 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs for the win. Garland got help from Francisco Rodriguez who earned his 8th save. Mat Latos(11-8) suffered the loss. He allowed 3 homeruns in 5 and 1/3 innings of work. This win by Colorado continues their recent hot streak. In their last ten games, they have a record of 8-2. For the season, they are 72-37. With an impressive recent record of 8-2, Sea Isle hopes this will only be an isolated loss - followed by another nice run. Detroit promptly took the lead in their half of the first when they came up with 3 runs on 2 hits. That early run support was all that Vargas(10-8) required. The pitchers took over after the 3rd inning as neither team was able to score again. Bud Norris(5-10) was the loser. Jim Leyland was very impressed with his pitcher, Vargas, 'He had unusually good pitch placement tonight. Boston jumped on top of Oakland in the bottom of the 2nd inning when they scored 4 runs on 4 hits. That early scoring held up. Overall Boston out-hit Oakland 15 to 10. Matt Garza(7-11) was the winner allowing 3 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings. Jason Hammel(5-15) absorbed the loss. He allowed 4 runs and 4 hits in 1 and 2/3 innings. WASHINGTON AT WALL ST Alouettes....... 2 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 1 - 4 7 1 Millionaires.... 0 1 0 0 0 1 1 0 0 0 - 3 10 2 Win:Coleman(1-0) Loss:McClellan(2-6) Homeruns- W.Venable(17th), C.Ross(9th), I.Stewart(15th), A.Pujols(37th) One run was the difference at Wrigley Field as the Washington Alouettes defeated the Wall St Millionaires in 10 innings 4 to 3. The game was deadlocked at 3 after nine full innings. Washington won the game in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Ian Stewart blasted a solo shot. Washington won despite being out-hit by Wall St 10 hits to 7. Casey Coleman(1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 3 and 2/3 innings. Kyle McClellan(2-6) was charged with the loss in relief. The Washington ballclub's record now stands at 32-81. The loss by Wall St interrupted a nice 8-2 recent run.

Atlanta drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning with 3 runs on 2 hits. Kelly Johnson led off and keyed the rally when he stroked a base-hit. Hanley Ramirez followed next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Holliday then ripped a base-knock. Andre Ethier came up and he drew a walk to load the bases. Colby Rasmus stepped into the box and drew a walk. Aubrey Huff continued the rally and drew a walk. David Wright stepped up next and he hit a sacrifice fly. That was all the runs R.A. Dickey(6-5) needed. Atlanta totaled 10 hits on the night. The losing pitcher was Colby Lewis(8-12). Atlanta scored big getting 7 runs off him in 6 and 1/3 innings. Baltimore found themselves trailing quickly as the Philadelphia bats came through in the first inning scoring a single run using 3 hits. That scoring would be all that was needed. Philadelphia finished with 8 hits in the victory. Billy Wagner preserved the game for Lincecum, recording his his 28th. Jimenez(14-5) pitched a solid game. He surrendered only 7 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. Sunshine State had 10 hits for the night. Roy Halladay(15-10) ended up with the loss. Jimenez was pleased with his performance. He noted, 'I had good zip on my pitches. Just as important, my location was right on. The fans really got into the game too - that always helps me. Now, if I can only do that again in my next outing.'
