The score was knotted at 6 after nine innings. Finally, Detroit prevailed in the 16th inning. Victor Martinez blasted a solo shot giving Detroit the win much to the delight of the home town crowd. For the game Detroit out-hit Oakland 19 to 16. David Purcey(1-0) went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Pedro Feliciano(0-1) took the loss in relief. He surrendered 1 hit and no walks in 1 inning. The score was tied at 5 after nine. Finally, Boston pulled the game out in the 11th inning. Delmon Young kicked off the action when he ripped a single. After an out was recorded, Ben Zobrist came to the plate and drew a walk. Yorvit Torrealba then slapped a one-base hit to load the bases. After another out, Mike Aviles stepped up to the plate and he drew a walk. Adam Jones came up to bat and stroked a base-hit. Both teams ended up with 11 hits on the night. Both teams had scored 8 runs after nine full innings. Atlanta came out on top in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Chipper Jones drew a walk. Kelly Johnson was next and he banged out a single. Johnson took second on the throw. Hanley Ramirez then worked the squeeze play to perfection resulting in an exciting win for Atlanta and a raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans. Atlanta and Colorado each finished the night with 15 hits. Takashi Saito(1-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 1/3 of an inning and allowing no runs. Carlos Marmol(2-2) was tagged with the loss in relief. He saw his ERA jump from 1.42 to 2.05 as gave up 2 runs in 1 inning.

McGehee was in a groove all evening. The Wall St fans hated to see him approaching the batter's box. He belted a three-run homer in the 2nd inning, laced a base-hit in the 4th inning and clubbed a three-run home run in the 8th inning. The Sea Isle offense man-handled the Wall St pitching staff as they scored in 7 of the 9 innings. Mat Latos(12-8) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings. Chris Carpenter(8-9) was charged with the loss. He allowed 8 hits and 2 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings. 'Actually, I didn't feel that comfortable at the plate tonight' McGehee said after the game. 'Despite that, I'm happy with the results! WASHINGTON AT SUNSHINE STATE Alouettes....... 0 2 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 - 4 6 2 Stalkers........ 0 2 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 - 2 6 1 Win:Floyd(5-15) Loss:Jimenez(14-6) Homeruns- L.Overbay(13th), J.Bruce(25th) Gavin Floyd was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete game as the Washington Alouettes topped the Sunshine State Stalkers by a score of 4 to 2 at Sun Life Stadium. Washington won the game with a rally in the 9th inning with 2 runs using 2 hits. Ty Wigginton led off and got things going when he tripled. Juan Rivera next to the plate and he hit a sacrifice fly. After another out, Lyle Overbay came up and he hit a bases-empty home run. Both teams ended up with 6 hits on the night. Floyd(5-15) lasted until the end allowing 2 runs for the win. Ubaldo Jimenez(14-6) was the loser. With this win, Washington has a 33-85 record. They have been 3-7 lately. With an impressive recent record of 8-2, Sunshine State hopes this will only be an isolated loss - followed by another nice run. Cherry Hill wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning as they scored 6 runs on 5 base hits. That early run support was enough for Roy Halladay(16-10) and Cherry Hill. The pitchers took over after the 3rd inning as neither team was able to score again. Joakim Soria earned the save, his 31st. The losing pitcher was Chris Volstad(2-13). Cherry Hill now has a record of a division leading 76-41. Buck Showalter was pretty down after the loss. 'We've really been sputtering along lately, something like 2-8 in the last week or two. That won't get it done.'

The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings. Philadelphia won the hard fought contest in the 10th inning. Justin Upton ripped a base-hit. Stephen Drew next to the plate and he tripled resulting in a mighty exciting win for Philadelphia and the 39,199 home town fans in attendance. Philadelphia ended up with 8 hits for the game while Cincinnati had 5. The victory was credited to Billy Wagner(5-3) who went 2 innings, allowing 1 run. Burke Badenhop(0-6) was charged with the loss in relief. Philadelphia extended their winning streak to 6 games. 'Everything seems to be going right for us' said Charlie Manuel. 'I've got the easiest job in the league right now!'
