Thome was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided much of the offense for the visitors. He hit a bases-empty home run in the 3rd inning and cracked a two-run shot in the 5th inning. Toronto was out-hit by Detroit, 9 hits to 2. Jason Vargas(13-10) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 and 1/3 innings and allowing 1 run. Doug Fister(9-12) was charged with the loss. He allowed 4 homeruns in 5 innings of work. Gonzalez provided much of the offense. He delivered a one-base hit in the 2nd inning, doubled in the 4th inning and lofted a three-run 'big-fly' in the 5th inning. Boston finished with 16 hits while Baltimore ended up with 9. The win went to Liriano(13-8) who allowed no runs in 7 innings. Justin Masterson(7-19) was the loser. He was not very effective, surrendering 9 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings. 'Everything felt great' Liriano said. 'I had a good fastball, I felt I could throw it by everybody tonight.' Colorado had the winning rally in the 9th inning when they scored 5 runs on 5 hits. The big moment was provided by Chris Young who helped quiet the crowd when he lofted a three-run bomb. Colorado out-hit Minnesota for the game, 10 hits to 5. The victory was credited to Clay Hensley(2-0) who went 1 and 1/3 innings, allowing no runs. David Aardsma(4-3) suffered the loss in relief. Ron Gardenhire was not very talkative after his team's tough loss. 'I'm not in the mood for questions, but I'm sure Jim Tracy will be glad to talk about the game as long as you have questions to ask.' Brett Myers(14-9) gave Sunshine State a solid outing. He surrendered 7 hits and 2 walks in 8 and 1/3 innings and allowed 2 gopher balls. Wall St threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short. Chris Carpenter(10-13) ended up with the loss. By surrending 6 runs in 1/3 of an inning his ERA jumped from 4.96 to 5.23.

Carrasco had an impressive outing as the Washington Alouettes defeated the Yardley Oaks in 10 innings by a score of 5 to 4 at Yankee Stadium. Both teams were tied at 4 runs apiece after nine innings. Finally, Washington prevailed in the 10th inning. Alcides Escobar doubled, and an error was also committed. Russell Martin was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out. Washington finished with 8 hits in the victory. Huston Street(4-8) was the winner allowing no runs in 2 innings. Joaquin Benoit(4-2) was hit with the loss in relief. He pitched 3 and 2/3 innings allowing 3 hits and no walks. The Atlanta Prohibitioners won by the slimmest of margins, 5 to 4. R.A. Dickey(10-10) pitched a fine game. He went 7 innings surrendering 8 hits and 2 walks. Oakland threatened in the 9th but Atlanta was able to put down the rally. Takashi Saito was credited with his 5th save. Brett Cecil(6-19) was given the loss. He surrended 3 homeruns in his 7 and 1/3 innings. Johnson(12-9) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He didn't allow much, just 5 hits and 2 walks in 8 and 1/3 innings. Sea Isle rapped out 7 hits for the night. Johnson was helped out by Brian Wilson who recorded his 28th save. Wandy Rodriguez(16-8) was charged with the loss. He pitched 7 and 2/3 innings giving up 7 hits and 4 walks. Johnson, when asked about his 10 strikeout performance noted, 'The important thing is that we won, if I get 20 and we lose, what good does it do our team? But, on the other hand, since we won it feels great!' Molina provided the offensive punch. He rifled a three-run blast in the 5th inning and cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the 8th inning. Cherry Hill had 16 hits overall, while Cincinnati had 6. The win was credited to Clay Buchholz(17-2) who went 7 innings allowing 1 run. Mitch Talbot(7-24) ended up with the loss. He surrendered 5 runs and 6 hits in 5 and 2/3 innings.
