Pence was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day at their team's expense. He doubled which was good for two runs in the 2nd inning and caught a hold of a bad pitch for a Grand Slam homerun (his 3rd of the season) in the 3rd inning. Atlanta had 11 hits for the game and Boston had 5. Hudson(1-0) allowed 2 runs in 8 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the victory. The right-handed Hudson lost his chance for a no-hitter when Jason Bartlett singled with two outs in the 6th inning. Shaun Marcum(0-1) absorbed the loss.
