Oliver Perez carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning and Jim Thome cracked a
homer as the Colorado Scrub NL 2 defeated the Oakland Scrub AL 2 by the score
of 7 to 1 at McAfee Coliseum.

Perez(1-1) was on top of his game. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just
2 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA to 1.88. The left-handed
Perez lost his no-hit bid when Rich Aurilia homered with one out in the 7th
inning. Colorado finished with just 6 hits in the victory.

Barry Zito(0-2) was the loser. He gave up 6 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings of
work. When questioned about his counterpart after the game, Zito was lavish
in his praise, 'It was obvious very early on that we were going to be in for
a long night. Perez brought his 'A' game with him - he had good stuff and
was able to spot it perfectly. He probably only made one or two bad pitches
the entire game!
