He delivered a single in the 5th inning, smashed a solo-shot out of the park in the 7th inning and cleared the fences for a two-run home run (his 5th of the season) in the 8th inning. For the game Boston out-hit Pinehurst 14 to 4. The win was credited to Saunders(2-0) who went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs. Joakim Soria got the save, his 5th. Mike Mussina(0-2) took the loss. Alex Rodriguez enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He blasted a two-run home run (his 3rd of the season) in the 4th inning, doubled plating a run in the 5th inning and laced a base-knock in the 9th inning. Yardley out-hit Toronto for the game, 14 hits to 6. Hernandez(1-0) was the winner allowing 4 runs in 7 and 1/3 innings. Hernandez got relief help from Joe Nathan who gained credit for his 4th save. Andy Pettitte(2-1) was charged with the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 10 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings. Jackson was helped out by Dennis Sarfate who recorded his 1st save. Tim Lincecum(0-3) was tagged with the loss. Despite taking the loss, he whiffed 10 batters in 7 innings.
