Mariano Rivera earned the save with a perfect ninth, his 6th save. The win was credited to Sean Green(1-0) who went 2 innings allowing 3 runs. Scott Kazmir(0-2) was charged with the loss. Minnesota scored big getting 5 runs off him in 2 and 1/3 innings. 'It's just about getting in a good hitting position and just going out there and being prepared,' Mauer said. 'You try to hit in your own capacity and not do too much. I just try to have a good approach, day after day, game by game, and pitch by pitch.' Young got help from Matt Capps who earned his 3rd save. Clayton Kershaw(0-2) was tagged with the loss. 'I had a little blister on my index finger before the game, but I thought it was nothing.' Young said. 'I was lucky I got a win because I couldn't put the ball where I wanted it.' Toronto came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs utilizing 3 base hits. After an out was recorded, Jack Cust started the attack as he drew a walk. Teagarden stepped up next and he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run (his 5th of the season). Eric Hinske then laced a base-hit. Perez then stole second base. Francisco Rodriguez then threw a wild pitch. Geoff Blum kept the inning going and slapped a single. Toronto had 12 hits for the night. Joe Smith(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing no runs. Rodriguez(1-1) suffered the loss in relief. 'That was exciting!,' Teagarden said. 'I would have paid money to watch this one.' They almost ran out of baseballs at Nationals Park as Atlanta Prohibitioners clobbered the Washington Scrub NL 1 pitching staff, scoring 10 runs while Randy Johnson(3-0), with relief help from Latroy Hawkins, held Washington to 1 run. Atlanta jumped on top to stay in the top of the 2nd inning as they scored 2 runs on 4 base hits. That was all the runs Johnson needed. Atlanta had 16 hits for the night while Washington had 9. Randy Wolf(1-2) absorbed the loss. He gave up 7 runs in 4 innings of work. With this win, Atlanta has a division leading 13-3 record. They have been 7-3 lately. Washington continued their losing ways and their record is now 4-12, worst in the division. They are 1-9 in their last ten games.
