Toronto scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning with the help of 4 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Taylor Teagarden who made the Toronto fans a happy lot when he doubled bringing in two baserunners. Due to a poorly pitched ballgame, scoring in 5 different innings was still not enough for Cherry Hill to come away with the victory. The victory was credited to Joe Smith(2-0) who went 1 and 2/3 innings, allowing no runs. Manny Parra got the save, his 1st. The loss was charged to Brad Ziegler(1-1) in relief. Washington erupted with the game winning runs in the 8th inning scoring 2 runs using 2 hits. After an out was recorded, Jim Edmonds initiated the scoring when he hit a bases-empty home run (his 3rd of the season). Kevin Kouzmanoff came to the plate and cracked a solo homerun (his 1st of the season). Gabe Gross then drew a walk. Washington finished with 9 hits while Atlanta ended up with 5. Francisco Cordero(1-2) allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the victory. Chris Sampson(1-1) was the loser in relief. He pitched 1 and 1/3 innings allowing 3 hits and no walks. The win by Washington is a very welcome one as they have been struggling in recent days. Their record now stands at 5-12 - only 2-8 in their last ten games. With this loss, Atlanta has a 6-4 record of late, 13-4 overall.
