At Fenway Park, the Boston faithful were treated to an intriguing pitcher's
duel.  Jon Lester(3-5) finally bested his Wall St counterpart, Matt
Cain(3-4), by the score of 4 to 0.
 
Lester was in control of the game from the outset.  He was stingy on the
mound, allowing just 7 hits and no walks in 8 and 1/3 innings.  Lester
struckout 9 Wall St batters lowering his ERA to 3.82.  Both teams ended up
with 7 hits on the night.  
 
Joakim Soria got the save, his 12th.  Cain took the loss.  Boston won for the
7th straight time.

At Comerica Park the Sunshine State Stalkers outscored the Detroit 40's 8 to
5.
 
Sunshine State erupted with the game winning runs in the top of the 9th inning
with 3 runs on 5 hits.  Elijah Dukes opened up the inning nicely when he
singled.  Milton Bradley stepped up to the plate and he laced a base-hit.
Prince Fielder then stroked a one-base hit.  Brian Giles stepped in and he
stroked a single.  After an out was recorded, Ryan Ludwick came up and he
doubled.  Sunshine State banged out 12 hits on the night.  
 
Carlos Marmol(1-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 and 1/3 innings and
allowing 2 runs. Damaso Marte(2-2) suffered the loss in relief.

Joe Mauer had 2 base hits at Turner Field where the Minnesota SnowBirds beat
the Atlanta Prohibitioners by the score of 3 to 2.
 
Minnesota won the game with a run in the 9th inning.  After an out was
recorded, B.J. Upton lined a one-base hit.  A balk was called.  Orlando
Cabrera then drew a walk.  One out later, Placido Polanco came up and he
doubled.  Overall Minnesota out-hit Atlanta 8 to 5.  
 
Jeremy Guthrie(5-4) went 8 innings allowing 2 runs for the victory. Mariano
Rivera gained credit for his 12th save.  Ricky Nolasco(6-2) was tagged with
the loss.

Second baseman Chase Utley jacked one out of the ballyard and had 2 RBI as the
Sea Isle Seagulls defeated the Pinehurst PinOaks 5 to 2 at Camden
Yards.
 
Jonathan Broxton(2-0) slammed the door shut in an excellent relief
performance.  No one was able to reach base in his 2 innings seeing his ERA
drop from 3.48 to 2.92.  Broxton got help from Kerry Wood who pitched a
perfect ninth and was credited with his 11th save.  
 
The losing pitcher was Johan Santana(2-5).  He got hit pretty hard, allowing
10 hits and 4 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.

Vernon Wells had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the streaking Cherry Hill Maulers
defeated the Philadelphia Phranks by the score of 9 to 7 at Citizen's Bank
Park.
 
Wells provided much of the offense.  He lost the ball over the fence for three
runs (his 9th of the season) in the 2nd inning, hit a single in the 4th
inning, delivered a one-base hit in the 5th inning and laced a single in the
7th inning.  For the game Cherry Hill out-hit Philadelphia 14 to 11.  
 
The victory went to Armando Galarraga(6-1) who went 5 and 1/3 innings,
allowing 5 runs. Galarraga got relief help from Francisco Rodriguez who
gained credit for his 15th save.  Jair Jurrjens(1-3) absorbed the loss.  He
got hit hard, allowing 8 hits and 2 walks in 3 innings.  
 
With the win, Cherry Hill continues their noteworthy winning streak.

Right fielder Jermaine Dye cracked a homer as the Yardley Oaks defeated the
Binghamton Brawlers by a score of 6 to 4 at Shea Stadium.
 
Yardley drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning
scoring 2 runs.  Yunel Escobar led off and started the attack as he drew a
walk.  Denard Span followed and he doubled.  After an out was recorded, Alex
Rodriguez stepped up to the plate and he would ground out.  Yardley rapped
out 11 hits for the night.  
 
Kevin Slowey(3-1) went 5 and 2/3 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. Slowey
got help from Joe Nathan who earned his 12th save.  Mike Pelfrey(3-5) was
charged with the loss.  He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 8
hits and 5 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.  
 
'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' Slowey said.

Doug Davis(4-2) gave Oakland a solid outing.  He allowed just 5 hits and 4
walks in 8 innings.  Davis mowed down 9 Toronto batters lowering his ERA from
3.38 to 3.02.  Oakland had 11 hits overall, while Toronto had 6.  
 
Bronson Arroyo(2-6) was tagged with the loss.  He was knocked around pretty
good, giving up 6 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.

Edwin Jackson allowed Manny Acta to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
as the Washington Scrub NL 1 defeated the Colorado Scrub NL 2 4 to 1 at
Nationals Park.
 
Washington tallied 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning with the help of 3
hits.  That was all Jackson(3-3) needed.  Washington managed only 6 hits on
the night.  
 
Oliver Perez(1-4) suffered the loss.  The Washington ballclub's record now
stands at 18-27.  With the loss Colorado now has a record of 13-35, worst in
the division.
