Nick Markakis blasted 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Jered Weaver* went 9 strong innings as the Minnesota SnowBirds topped the ice-cold Toronto Scrub AL 1 by a score of 10 to 1 at Metrodome. Markakis enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He popped a two-run clout over the fence in the 1st inning and cracked a two-run shot (his 4th of the season) in the 5th inning. Minnesota had a total of 14 hits for the game. The win went to Weaver*(4-3) who allowed 1 run in the game. Jon Garland(1-4) was the losing pitcher. He got hit hard, allowing 10 hits and 3 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings. Ron Gardenhire was very impressed with his pitcher, Weaver*, 'He had unusually good pitch placement tonight. Gary Matthews Jr got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim. Rickie Weeks was up next and he delivered a one-base hit making Oakland the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. Oakland out-hit Washington for the game, 8 hits to 5. The victory went to Jorge De La Rosa(3-3) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs. Seth McClung(1-3) was tagged with the loss in relief. The Oakland ballclub's record now stands at 18-31. With this loss, Washington has a 3-7 record of late, 18-28, worst in the division overall.
