Minnesota came up with 4 runs in the 2nd inning with the help of 4 hits. The early run support proved sufficient for Matt Garza(5-5) and Minnesota. That was all the run support Garza required. The Toronto batters went down meekly in the 9th. Mariano Rivera recorded the save, his 14th. Dana Eveland(2-4) was charged with the loss. This win by Minnesota continues their recent hot streak. In their last ten games, they have a record of 8-2. For the season, they are a division leading 31-17. Still in a bad slump, with this loss, Toronto is 1-9 lately and 19-32, worst in the division on the year. Washington came up with 3 runs in the 4th inning when they had 4 base hits. The critical plate appearance was by Ellis who deflated the mood of the partisan fans when he hit a single scoring two baserunners. Washington had 10 hits overall, while Oakland had 6. The win was credited to Randy Wolf(3-6) who went 8 innings allowing 3 runs. Wolf got relief help from Francisco Cordero who gained credit for his 8th save. Barry Zito(2-6) was the losing pitcher. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 8 hits and 3 walks in 3 innings.
