Zack Greinke tossed a fine 2 hitter as the Detroit 40's defeated the Boston
Stranglers 6 to 1 at Fenway Park.
 
Detroit took the lead for keeps in the top of the 4th inning scoring a single
run using 2 hits.  Detroit had a total of 11 hits for the game.  
 
The victory was credited to Greinke(7-2) who went the distance, allowing 1
run. Joe Saunders(6-3) was given the loss.  He surrendered 6 hits and 2 walks
in 6 and 1/3 innings.  
 
'Greinke gave us exactly what we needed tonight,' Jim Leyland said. 'When he
threw the fastball he threw it for strikes.  They were really fooled by his
change.  Most of the time he had them chasing it.'

At McAfee Coliseum, the Oakland fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel.  Luke
Hochevar(1-0) finally bested his Pinehurst opposite, Jesse Litsch(1-7), by
the score of 1 to 0.
 
Hochevar had a solid outing for Oakland.  He went 7 innings surrendering 4
hits and 2 walks.  Both teams finished the game with 4 hits.  
 
Brian Wilson recorded the save, his 3rd.  Litsch was the losing pitcher.  He
surrendered 1 run and 3 hits in 5 and 1/3 innings.

Pedro Feliz went deep and had 2 RBI as the Toronto Scrub AL 1 topped the
Cherry Hill Maulers in 10 innings by a score of 7 to 5 at US Cellular
Field.
 
The score was tied at 5 after nine.  Finally, Toronto pulled the game out in
the 10th inning.  Alexi Casilla led off and started the rally when he slapped
a one-base hit.  After an out was recorded, Paul Konerko stepped up to the
plate and he smacked a single.  Eric Hinske then lined a base-hit.  Geoff
Blum came up and he delivered a single.  After another out, Rod Barajas was a
strikeout victim, unable to help out.  Toronto had 11 hits for the night.
 
The victory went to Ryan Franklin(3-2) who went 4 innings, allowing no runs.
Jon Rauch gained credit for his 7th save.  Francisco Rodriguez(3-2) suffered
the loss in relief.  He pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up 4 hits and no
walks.
 
'It's been a rough ride lately, but this was a good win for us' said Cito
Gaston, 'Maybe this will put us back on track.'

The Philadelphia Phranks nipped the Sea Isle Seagulls 3 to 2 at PNC Park in a
hard fought contest.
 
Chad Billingsley(7-3) pitched a solid game.  He went 7 innings allowing 4 hits
and 1 walk and surrendered 2 homeruns.  The pitchers took over after the 4th
inning as neither team was able to score again.  
 
Billingsley got help from Brad Lidge who was credited with his 10th save.  The
losing pitcher was Cole Hamels(1-4).  He pitched 9 innings allowing 8 hits
and 1 walk.

Sunshine State was unable to claim the lead after Washington went ahead in the
7th inning scoring a single run.  Washington out-hit Sunshine State for the
game, 10 hits to 7.  
 
The win went to Braden Looper(3-4) who allowed 4 runs in 8 innings. Looper got
relief help from Francisco Cordero who gained credit for his 9th save.
Hiroki Kuroda(6-4) was the losing pitcher.  He served up 5 homeruns in his 6
and 2/3 innings.

The Atlanta Prohibitioners pitching coach might be looking for a new job soon.
His team allowed 11 runs while James Shields(4-3), with relief help from
Huston Street, surrendered 2 runs to Atlanta in a laugher.
 
Carlos Beltran enjoyed a big evening at the plate.  He laced a one-base hit
bringing in a run in the 2nd inning, slapped a base-hit which plated a run in
the 5th inning and lost the ball over the fence for three runs (his 8th of
the season) in the 7th inning.  Wall St ended up with 16 hits for the game
while Atlanta had 8.  
 
Derek Lowe(2-5) was the loser.  He was unable to control the Wall St offense
and allowed 10 hits and 3 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings.

Left fielder J.D. Drew lofted one into the 'cheap seats' as the Minnesota
SnowBirds outscored the Colorado Scrub NL 2 8 to 4.
 
Minnesota went ahead for good in the top of the 4th inning scoring one runner
using 3 hits.  Offensively, Minnesota was a juggernaut.  They scored in 6
separate innings.  
 
Jeremy Guthrie(6-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 and 2/3 innings and
allowing 3 runs. Zach Duke(3-7) took the loss.  He gave up 9 hits and 1 walk
in 5 and 2/3 innings.
