Shaun Marcum took a no-hitter into the 6th inning and shortstop Mike Aviles
had 2 base hits as the Boston Stranglers outscored the ice-cold Oakland Scrub
AL 2 6 to 0.

Marcum(11-10) was simply too much for the Oakland batters. He was stingy on
the mound, allowing just 1 hit and 2 walks in 9 innings reducing his ERA from
4.39 to 4.10. The right-handed Marcum lost his chance for a no-hitter when
Mark Kotsay singled with one out in the 6th inning. Boston rapped out 15
hits for the night.

Barry Zito(2-14) took the loss. He allowed Boston 5 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings
of work. The Boston ballclub's record now stands at 58-47. Not able to get
much going in recent weeks, Oakland is 1-9 of late and now has an overall
record of 27-74, worst in the division.

beat the Minnesota SnowBirds 5 to 0.

Harden(4-1) had a strong outing. He allowed only 2 hits and 3 walks in 6
innings. Yardley finished with 9 hits while Minnesota ended up with 4.

The loss was charged to Chien-Ming Wang(1-2). Joe Girardi was asked about the
performance of Harden, 'He had his good stuff out there tonight. The fans
really get into it when the strikeouts start mounting up - and that seems to
give him even more adrenalin.'

Scott Baker racked up an impressive total of 10 strikeouts and second baseman
Dan Uggla had 2 base hits as the Sunshine State Stalkers topped the dreadful
Colorado Scrub NL 2 by a score of 13 to 8 at Dolphins Stadium.

Baker(8-9) was solid if not spectacular. He was reached for 11 hits and 3
walks in 8 innings. Sunshine State totaled 10 hits on the night.

Tim Wakefield(1-10) took the loss. His ERA ballooned from 4.79 to 5.21 as he
allowed 6 runs in 1 and 1/3 innings. Everyone seemed to enjoy the
performance of Baker - except Colorado. Clint Hurdle lamented, 'He just was
'on' tonight. He was keeping our guys off balance all game. A fine game by
a good strikeout pitcher - makes it a fun game for the hometown fans -
unfortunately we were the visitors!'

Jason Bay touched them all and had 3 RBI as the Detroit 40's defeated the
Pinehurst PinOaks by the score of 4 to 3 at Comerica Park.

Detroit scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. The key offensive

doubled plating two runs. Pinehurst had a chance to come back in the 9th but
they came up short.

The win was credited to Gil Meche(9-7) who went 6 and 2/3 innings allowing 3
runs. Jonathan Papelbon got the save, his 21st. The loss was charged to Adam
Wainwright(5-7).

'We lose our concentration for one pitch, and we lose the game.' Dave Trembley
said after the game. 'Maybe now these guys will listen when I say they have
to concentrate on EVERY pitch.'
