Detroit scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. The key offensive moment was provided by Bay who made the home-town crowd a happy bunch when he doubled plating two runs. Pinehurst had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short. The win was credited to Gil Meche(9-7) who went 6 and 2/3 innings allowing 3 runs. Jonathan Papelbon got the save, his 21st. The loss was charged to Adam Wainwright(5-7). 'We lose our concentration for one pitch, and we lose the game.' Dave Trembley said after the game. 'Maybe now these guys will listen when I say they have to concentrate on EVERY pitch.' Ramirez had a big evening at the plate. He cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the 1st inning and delivered a solo blast (his 19th of the season) in the 3rd inning. Atlanta finished with just 5 hits in the victory. The winning pitcher was Lowe(6-10) who allowed 1 run in 8 innings. Brian Fuentes earned his 27th save. Edwin Jackson(5-7) ended up with the loss. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 8 innings of work.
