Jacobs was unconscious out there. While Pinehurst pitching was serving softballs up there for him to hit, the Pinehurst fans were serving up some hardball barbs when he entered the batter's box. But he just used it as fuel for the fire. He popped a two-run clout over the fence in the 1st inning, singled in the 3rd inning and lost the ball over the fence for three runs (his 27th of the season) in the 8th inning. Pinehurst was set down quietly in the bottom of the 9th. The victory went to Brian Wilson(3-4) who went 2 and 1/3 innings, allowing 1 run. George Sherrill earned his 10th save. Ramon Ramirez(6-5) ended up with the loss in relief. He was knocked around, surrendering 3 runs in 2 innings. 'I felt great out there tonight,' Jacobs said, 'Maybe I should make a regular habit of getting to bed on time!'
