Ervin Santana whiffed 10 batters and Jason Bartlett touched them all and had 3
RBI as the Boston Stranglers outscored the Wall St Millionaires 5 to
1.
 
Santana(9-6) looked very much in control throughout the day.  He didn't give
up much, just 8 hits and 2 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings.  Boston rapped out 10
hits for the afternoon.  
 
Joakim Soria recorded his 20th save.  The loss was charged to Taylor
Buchholz(5-1) in relief.  Santana was pleased with his performance.  He
noted, 'I had good command of all my pitches.  Just as important, my location
was right on.'

At Metrodome, the Minnesota fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel.  Cliff
Lee(11-4) finally bested his Sunshine State opposite, David Bush(9-6), by the
score of 1 to 0.
 
The game's lone run was scored in the 4th inning.  Mariano Rivera was perfect
in relief and gained credit for his 20th save.  
 
Bush was hit with the loss.  He was stingy with the baserunners, allowing just
6 hits and no walks in 8 innings.
 
'I didn't have my best stuff but sometimes you just get lucky,' Lee said,
'this was one of those times.'

Park.
 
Sea Isle tallied 3 runs in the 5th inning with the help of 3 hits. They would
hold up as the winning runs.  Sea Isle had 9 hits overall, while Pinehurst
had 5.  
 
Paul Maholm(13-2) got the win allowing 2 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings. Kerry Wood
got the save, his 29th.  John Lackey(6-4) suffered the loss.  He gave up 4
runs and 9 hits in 7 innings.

Xavier Nady had 2 base hits at Turner Field where the Detroit 40's beat the
Atlanta Prohibitioners in 10 innings 7 to 4.
 
The game was deadlocked at 4 after nine full innings.  Detroit won the hard
fought contest in the 10th inning.  After two outs Jason Bay got things going
when he smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' (his 19th of the season).  Nady
stepped up next and he delivered a one-base hit.  Justin Morneau then bombed
a two-run dinger (his 17th of the season).  Detroit had just 6 hits for the
afternoon.  
 
The victory was credited to Jonathan Papelbon(3-3) who went 2 innings,
allowing 2 runs. The losing pitcher was Chris Sampson(2-3) in relief.

In a thriller the Binghamton Brawlers staged a dramatic comeback then held on
to win over the Cherry Hill Maulers by a score of 4 to 3 at US Cellular
Field.
 
Binghamton came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 9th inning when
they tallied 4 runs on 2 hits.  The crucial at-bat was provided by Derrek Lee
who silenced US Cellular Field as he cleared the fences for a two-run home
run (his 11th of the season).  Binghamton had only 3 hits for the game.
 
The victory went to John Lannan(10-6) who went 8 innings, allowing 3 runs.
Lannan got help from Chad Qualls who was credited with his 13th save.
Francisco Rodriguez(3-3) was given the loss in relief.  
 
'We just kept swinging the bats and didn't give up,' Ryan Madson said. 'If you
just keep trying good things can happen!'

One run was the difference at Citizen's Bank Park as the Yardley Oaks defeated
the Philadelphia Phranks 3 to 2.
 
Justin Duchscherer(9-2) gave a fine effort for Yardley.  He went 6 innings
allowing 5 hits and no walks.  Philadelphia had a chance in the 9th but they
came up short.  
 
Duchscherer got help from Joe Nathan who earned his 21st save.  Jamie
Moyer(6-9) was the loser.  Charlie Manual was in a contemplative mood after
the tough loss, 'It is really hard to lose this kind of a game.  It may seem
weird to some, but it is easier to take the occasional blow-out loss.  It is
the ones that just barely get away that hurt so much - like this one!'
