Jon Lester delivered 9 solid innings as the Boston Stranglers defeated the
Cherry Hill Maulers by a score of 3 to 2 at Fenway Park.
 
Lester(9-6) escaped virtually unscathed against the Cherry Hill hitters.  He
allowed just 5 hits and no walks in 9 innings.  Boston had a total of 7 hits
for the game.  
 
Mike Mussina(9-9) was the losing pitcher.  He pitched 7 innings allowing 6
hits and 2 walks. The winning ways continue for Boston.  They now have a
record of 9-1 in recent days.  With this loss, Cherry Hill has a 4-6 record
of late, 70-39 overall.

Marcus Thames launched 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at McAfee Coliseum as the
Pinehurst PinOaks beat the struggling Oakland Scrub AL 2 9 to 6.
 
Thames led the offense for Pinehurst.  He lifted one out of the park for a two
run home run in the 3rd inning and blasted a two-run home run (his 6th of the
season) in the 7th inning.  Pinehurst won despite being out-hit by Oakland 12
hits to 8.  
 
Jesse Litsch(6-10) picked up the victory, allowing 5 runs in 6 and 2/3
innings. Ramon Ramirez recorded the save, his 8th.  Barry Zito(2-15) was hit
with the loss.  He served up 5 gopher balls in 9 innings.  
 
The Pinehurst ballclub's record now stands at 49-63.  Not able to get much
going in recent weeks, Oakland is 0-10 of late and now has an overall record
of 27-83, worst in the division.

Scott Baker mowed down 11 Atlanta batters at Turner Field where the Sunshine
State Stalkers beat the Atlanta Prohibitioners 6 to 0.
 
Baker(9-10) simply dominated Atlanta.  He gave up just 6 hits and 2 walks in 9
innings reducing his ERA from 5.29 to 4.97.  Sunshine State managed 9 hits in
their victory.  
 
The losing pitcher was Ricky Nolasco(14-8).  He was touched for 4 homeruns in
his 8 and 1/3 innings of work.  Baker was pleased with his performance.  He
noted, 'I had good command of all my pitches.  Just as important, my location
was right on.'

Yardley was unable to recover after Detroit went ahead in the 7th inning when
they scored 2 runs on 3 hits.  Detroit ended up with 11 hits for the game
while Yardley had 7.  
 
The victory was credited to Jose Valverde(1-2) who went 1 and 1/3 innings,
allowing no runs. Jonathan Papelbon gained credit for his 24th save.  Joba
Chamberlain(8-7) was tagged with the loss in relief.

Jody Gerut smashed 2 homeruns as the Wall St Millionaires defeated the
dreadful Colorado Scrub NL 2 5 to 1 at Coors Field.
 
Wall St promptly took the lead in their half of the first plating an isolated
run.  For the game Wall St out-hit Colorado 8 to 4.  
 
John Danks(11-3) allowed no runs in 5 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Danks got help from Taylor Buchholz who earned his 11th save.  Tim
Wakefield(1-11) was charged with the loss.  He served up 4 gopher balls in 7
and 1/3 innings.

Mike Pelfrey pitched a complete game at Shea Stadium as the Binghamton
Brawlers beat the Washington Scrub NL 1 by the count of 5 to 1.
 
Washington never recovered after Binghamton took the lead in the bottom of the
3rd inning scoring 2 runners on 2 hits.  That early scoring held up.
Binghamton totaled 13 hits on the night.  
 
Pelfrey(7-8) finished the game allowing 1 run in the victory. Braden
Looper(6-11) was the loser.  He allowed 5 runs and 10 hits in 6 innings.

Chien-Ming Wang tossed a complete game at Metrodome where the Minnesota
SnowBirds beat the Toronto Scrub AL 1 by the score of 7 to 2.
 
Minnesota tallied 6 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning when they had 5 base
hits.  That was all Wang(2-3) needed.  Minnesota had 8 hits for the night.
 
Bronson Arroyo(4-16) was hit with the loss.  He was knocked around pretty
good, giving up 5 runs in 2 and 2/3 innings.
