WEB GEMS- Bot 7th: Mark Kotsay robbed Jayson Werth of an extra base hit.

Ramon Hernandez slammed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Oakland Scrub AL 2
topped the Binghamton Brawlers by a score of 9 to 8 at Shea
Stadium.

Hernandez was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he
provided much of the offense for the visitors. He cracked a solo homerun in
the 1st inning and cracked a two-run shot (his 12th of the season) in the 8th
inning. Binghamton threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

Barry Zito(3-16) picked up the victory, allowing 4 runs in 6 innings. George
Sherrill was credited with his 13th save. Mike Pelfrey(8-10) was the loser.
He got hit hard, allowing 9 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings.

'This was a tough loss,' said Jerry Manuel, 'the kind that sticks with you for
awhile.'

Randy Johnson took a no-hitter into the 6th inning and Andre Ethier hit for
the cycle and had 6 RBI at Turner Field as the Atlanta Prohibitioners,
running on all cylinders, ripped the woeful Washington Scrub NL 1 by a large
22 to 1 margin.

Ethier was a one-man wrecking crew. He delivered a single which plated a run
in the 1st inning, doubled which scored a run in the 2nd inning, tripled in
the 6th inning, doubled knocking in a run in the 8th inning and lofted a
three-run 'big-fly' (his 10th of the season) in the 8th inning. Atlanta kept
the scorekeepers busy in the 2nd inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 3 hits
and the 8th inning when they had 10 runs on 6 hits. Atlanta kept the
pressure on throughout the contest as they scored in 6 different innings.

The winning pitcher was Johnson(12-6) who allowed 1 run for the game. The
left-handed Johnson lost his chance for a no-hitter when Kevin Kouzmanoff
singled with nobody out in the 6th inning. Braden Looper(7-14) was charged
with the loss.

'When Johnson is on like that it is a tough game to play, no doubt about it,'
Manny Acta said. 'He always pitches well against us.'

At Rogers Centre, the Toronto fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel. Bronson
Arroyo(6-17) finally bested his Minnesota opposite, Matt Garza(10-14), by the
score of 2 to 0.

Toronto took the lead for good in the 3rd inning scoring one runner using 3
hits. That was all the runs Arroyo needed. Toronto had only 4 hits for the
game.

Jon Rauch recorded the save, his 14th. The loss was charged to Garza. The
win by Toronto was very good news as they had been 2-8 of late. Now their
seasonal record improves to 40-84. Not able to get much going in recent
weeks, Minnesota is 2-8 of late and now has an overall record of 72-52.
