One run was the difference at Dolphins Stadium as the incredible Sunshine
State Stalkers defeated the dreadful Colorado Scrub NL 2 6 to 5.

Sunshine State scored 2 runs in the 7th inning. Brian Giles opened up the
inning nicely when he drew a walk. Ryan Ludwick was next and he bombed a
two-run dinger (his 24th of the season). Colorado had a chance to come back
in the 9th but they came up short.

The victory was credited to Scott Baker(11-10) who went 7 innings, allowing 5
runs. Kevin Gregg earned his 18th save. Manny Corpas(1-9) was the loser in
relief. He allowed 1 run and 1 hit in 1/3 of an inning.

Clint Hurdle was reflective after the loss, 'We should have won this one, we
just made one too many mistakes. Son-of-a-gun, that added a couple more
white hairs on this noggin of mine.'

Chipper Jones slammed 2 homeruns and had 6 RBI at PNC Park as the impressive
Sea Isle Seagulls, running on all cylinders, ripped the reeling Washington
Scrub NL 1 by a large 19 to 5 margin.

Jones had a big evening at the plate. He smashed a two-run homer in the 1st
inning, smacked a three-run homer (his 21st of the season) in the 2nd inning
and ripped a base-knock in the 4th inning. Sea Isle provided plenty of
action in the 1st inning when they had 4 runs on 4 hits, the 2nd inning which
saw them plate 4 runs on 3 hits and the 8th inning scoring 4 runs. The Sea
Isle offense man-handled the Washington pitching staff as they scored in 7 of
the 9 innings.

The victory went to Ryan Dempster(10-6) who went 8 and 1/3 innings, allowing 5
runs. The loss was charged to Nick Blackburn(5-16). He was touched for 4
homeruns in his 1 and 2/3 innings of work.

The winning ways continue for Sea Isle. They now have a record of 8-2 in
recent days. With the loss Washington now has a record of 43-84, worst in
the division.
