The game was deadlocked at 3 after nine full innings. Minnesota ended up winning it in the 13th inning. Nelson Cruz drew a walk. Joba Chamberlain then threw a pitch that the catcher muffed. Carlos Pena was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out. Cruz proceeded to steal third base. Maicer Izturis came to the plate and lashed a single giving Minnesota the win much to the delight of the home town crowd. Despite losing, Yardley out-hit Minnesota 10 to 4. Tejeda(1-0) allowed no runs in 3 innings, and picked up the victory. Chamberlain(8-8) was hit with the loss in relief. He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an earned run in his 1 and 1/3 innings of work. Uggla had a great evening at the plate. Sunshine State finished with 14 hits while Colorado ended up with 10. The victory was credited to Scott Olsen(4-1) who went 5 and 1/3 innings, allowing 5 runs. Joel Hanrahan recorded his 1st save. Haren got help from Jonathan Papelbon who earned his 29th save. Bronson Arroyo(6-18) absorbed the loss. He surrendered 8 hits and 2 walks in 7 and 1/3 innings. When asked about his strikeout total for the game, Haren offered, 'The fan's really got into it. It is fun to see them tally up the strikeout totals up there in the stands. Fortunately, I kept them busy this afternoon - of course, it would be all for naught without the 'W'.'
