WEB GEMS- Bot 2nd: Mark Kotsay robbed Jose Bautista of a Homerun!

Greg Maddux pitched 9 strong innings as the hapless Colorado Scrub NL 2 were
badly beaten by the Oakland Scrub AL 2, 12 to 1.

Colorado fell behind quickly as the Oakland offense came through in the first
inning when they tallied 3 runs on 2 hits. The early run support proved
sufficient for Maddux(6-13) and Oakland. That was all the run support Maddux
required. Oakland banged out 13 hits on the afternoon.

Tim Wakefield(2-14) ended up with the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 4
and 2/3 innings. 'Maddux gave us exactly what we needed tonight,' Bob Geren
said. 'When he threw the fastball he threw it for strikes. They were really
fooled by his change. Most of the time he had them chasing it.'

Kevin Millar blasted a grand slam and Andy Pettitte was able to finish what he
started and was credited with a complete game as the Toronto Scrub AL 1
defeated the floundering Washington Scrub NL 1 by a score of 11 to 3 at
Rogers Centre.

Millar had a big evening at the plate. He hit a single in the 2nd inning,
brought the hometown folks to their feet with a Grand Slammer (his 19th of
the season) in the 4th inning and banged out a one-base hit which plated a
run in the 7th inning. Toronto managed 12 hits in their victory.

Pettitte(5-15) was the winner allowing 3 runs for the game. Nick
Blackburn(5-18) was charged with the loss. He gave up 4 runs in 3 and 2/3
innings of work.
