The Philadelphia Phranks topped the Yardley Oaks by the slimmest of margins, 6 to 5. Both teams were tied at 4 runs apiece after nine innings. Philadelphia ended up winning it in the 11th inning. After two were out Ryan Braun started the rally when he drew a walk. Prince Fielder stepped up to the plate and he bombed a two-run dinger (his 28th of the season). David Wright got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Philadelphia banged out 7 hits on the night. Chad Billingsley(15-7) allowed no runs in 3 innings, and picked up the victory. Billingsley got relief help from Salomon Torres who gained credit for his 3rd save. Hideki Okajima(2-4) was charged with the loss in relief. With this win, Philadelphia has a 80-56 record. They have been 7-3 lately. With the loss, the Yardley ballclub's record is 80-59. Greg Maddux pitched 9 strong innings as the hapless Colorado Scrub NL 2 were badly beaten by the Oakland Scrub AL 2, 12 to 1. Colorado fell behind quickly as the Oakland offense came through in the first inning when they tallied 3 runs on 2 hits. The early run support proved sufficient for Maddux(6-13) and Oakland. That was all the run support Maddux required. Oakland banged out 13 hits on the afternoon. Tim Wakefield(2-14) ended up with the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 4 and 2/3 innings. 'Maddux gave us exactly what we needed tonight,' Bob Geren said. 'When he threw the fastball he threw it for strikes. They were really fooled by his change. Most of the time he had them chasing it.' Millar had a big evening at the plate. He hit a single in the 2nd inning, brought the hometown folks to their feet with a Grand Slammer (his 19th of the season) in the 4th inning and banged out a one-base hit which plated a run in the 7th inning. Toronto managed 12 hits in their victory. Pettitte(5-15) was the winner allowing 3 runs for the game. Nick Blackburn(5-18) was charged with the loss. He gave up 4 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings of work.
