WEB GEMS- Top 9th: Sunshine State turns a triple play!

Dan Uggla cracked a homer and had 2 RBI and Scott Olsen reeled off a total of
10 strikeouts as the powerful Sunshine State Stalkers beat the dreadful
Pinehurst PinOaks by a score of 6 to 3.

Olsen(8-2) pitched a solid game. He went 7 innings surrendering 4 hits and 2
walks and was touched for 3 homeruns. Sunshine State ended up with 9 hits
for the game while Pinehurst had 6.

Takashi Saito recorded the save, his 5th. Manny Delcarmen(6-6) took the loss
in relief. Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance of Olsen - except
Pinehurst. Dave Trembley lamented, 'He just was 'on' this afternoon. He was
keeping our guys off balance all game. A fine game by a good strikeout
pitcher - makes it a fun game for the hometown fans - unfortunately we were
the visitors!'

(his 37th of the season) in the 7th inning. Detroit threatened in the 9th

Brad Lidge earned the save, his 27th. The losing pitcher was Gil
Meche(11-13).

'I just wanted to give my team a chance to win.' said Shields, 'I got burned
on a couple of pitches. But we won the game, and that's all that matters.'

Mike Aviles had 2 base hits and Daisuke Matsuzaka struck out 11 batters as the
Boston Stranglers outscored the Philadelphia Phranks 2 to 0.

Matsuzaka(12-6) was virtually untouchable. He allowed just 2 hits and 3 walks
in 8 and 2/3 innings seeing his ERA drop from 4.32 to 4.09. Boston finished
with 12 hits while Philadelphia ended up with 2.

Joakim Soria gained credit for his 31st save. Josh Johnson(4-3) took the
loss. Matsuzaka was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a
little odd when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers and
a running tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet. Just
strange - but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the game.'
