Torii Hunter had 3 base hits as the strong Boston Stranglers defeated the
pitiful Toronto Scrub AL 1 by the score of 4 to 3 at Rogers Centre.

The game was won by Boston with a run in the top of the 8th inning. Hunter
ripped a base-knock. Hunter stole second with some aggressive base running.
Two outs later Mike Aviles stepped in and he laced a one-base hit. Toronto
threatened in the 9th but Boston was able to put down the rally.

The victory was credited to Dan Wheeler(3-2) who went 1/3 of an inning,
allowing no runs. Joakim Soria got the save, his 32nd. The losing pitcher
was Dana Eveland(5-11). He surrendered 12 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings.

'We didn't get the key hits when we needed them' Cito Gaston said. 'We did
what we could, we just didn't pull out the win. What can you say?'

Designated hitter Miguel Cabrera touched them all and had 2 RBI as the
indomitable Cherry Hill Maulers rallied impressively to win in dramatic style
over league door-mat Pinehurst PinOaks, 7 to 6.

Cherry Hill scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning when they tallied 4
runs on 4 hits. The key at-bat was by Cabrera who silenced Camden Yards as
he blasted a two-run home run (his 43rd of the season). Both teams ended up
with 12 hits on the night.

C.C. Sabathia(22-9) was the winner allowing 5 runs in 8 innings. Sabathia got
help from Francisco Rodriguez who earned his 40th save. Jim Johnson(2-1) was
the loser in relief.

After the game, it took a long while before Dave Trembley emerged from his
office. In a subdued tone he answered only a couple of questions. He
concluded with, 'Fellows, sorry I'm not in a very talkative mood tonight, as
I think you'll understand. I'm sure you'll find the banter a lot more
light-hearted over in the Cherry Hill locker room.'

Oakland Scrub AL 2 by a score of 5 to 2 at McAfee Coliseum.

In the 7th inning Detroit scored 4 runs when they had 5 base hits. The key

the night.

The win was credited to Aaron Cook(12-12) who went 8 innings allowing 2 runs.
Jonathan Papelbon recorded the save, his 34th. Tony Pena(0-1) was charged
with the loss in relief.

With this win, Detroit has a 87-63 record. They have been 5-5 lately. Still
in a bad slump, with this loss, Oakland is 2-8 lately and 37-114, worst in
the division on the year.
