26,984 fans were treated to a fine game at US Cellular Field as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Cherry Hill Maulers won by the
slimmest of margins, 4 to 3.

James Shields(3-0) contributed a pedestrian performance to earn the win. He
was reached for 10 hits and 1 walk in 6 and 2/3 innings. Shields mowed down
7 Detroit batters and surrendered 2 'long-bombs'. Although they lost,
Detroit did out-hit Cherry Hill 10 to 7.

Shields got relief help from Heath Bell who gained credit for his 3rd save.
Dan Haren(1-3) took the loss. He pitched 8 innings and surrendered 7 hits
and 2 walks.

'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' Ozzie Guillen said after the game. 'Shields did not have
command of his pitches most of the afternoon, but he proved he really knew
how to pitch!'
