Detroit jumped out to the early lead in the first inning plating one baserunner. For the game Detroit out-hit Oakland 13 to 9. The winning pitcher was Jeremy Guthrie(9-7) who allowed 1 run in 8 and 2/3 innings. Paul Maholm(4-16) took the loss. His ERA ballooned from 5.48 to 5.83 as he allowed 8 runs in 4 and 1/3 innings. Carpenter(7-8) gave Wall St a solid outing. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 7 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 4.87 to 4.66. Wall St banged out 14 hits on the night. Justin Masterson(1-12) was hit with the loss. He was knocked around by Wall St, allowing 8 hits and 4 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings. The game started off with Boston taking the lead in the first plating an isolated run on 3 hits. After two were out Wilson Betemit doubled. Gonzalez stepped up next and he doubled. Marcus Thames then drew a walk. Nick Markakis was up next and he hit a single to load the bases. Boston rapped out 16 hits for the night. Lester(8-5) was the winner allowing 1 run for the game. The losing pitcher was John Danks(8-8). He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 16 hits and 5 walks in 7 innings. It was a good day for Colorado thanks to Burrell. He smashed a solo-shot out of the park in the 4th inning and smacked a three-run homer in the 7th inning. Colorado bats were hot in the 3rd inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 4 hits, the 4th inning with 4 runs on 4 hits and the 7th inning tallying 4 runs. Colorado had a total of 18 hits for the game. The win went to Jhoulys Chacin(9-0) who allowed no runs in 2 and 2/3 innings. The loss was charged to Mitch Talbot(4-14). He served up 3 gopher balls in 3 and 1/3 innings.

Both teams were tied at 2 runs apiece after nine innings. Washington came out on top in the 13th inning. Will Venable got things going when he doubled. Russell Martin next to the plate and he ripped a base-knock. Jason Varitek then cleared the fences for a two-run home run. After an out was recorded, Alcides Escobar stepped up to the plate and he lashed a single. After another out, Jonny Gomes was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out. Washington banged out 8 hits on the night. The victory was credited to Miguel Batista(5-2) who went 3 innings, allowing no runs. John Axford(2-2) suffered the loss in relief. He pitched 2 innings allowing 2 hits and 2 walks. Wth the win Washington now has a record of 28-69. With the loss, Sea Isle has a record of 3-7 lately, 52-42 overall. ATLANTA AT PHILADELPHIA Prohibitioners.. 2 2 0 2 0 3 0 2 0 - 11 15 2 Phranks......... 0 1 0 0 0 1 3 1 1 - 7 14 2 Win:Dickey(4-4) Loss:Cueto(1-2) Homeruns- A.Huff-2(18th), R.Braun(15th) Aubrey Huff blasted 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Atlanta Prohibitioners defeated the Philadelphia Phranks by a score of 11 to 7 at Citizen's Bank Park. Huff led the offense for Atlanta. He cracked a two-run shot in the 2nd inning and blasted a two-run home run in the 4th inning. Philadelphia scored in 5 different innings, but their shaky pitching kept them from victory. R.A. Dickey(4-4) allowed 5 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the victory. Johnny Cueto(1-2) was hit with the loss. He got hammered, allowing 12 hits and 4 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings. Atlanta, who had been struggling lately, moved their record to 42-52. They are now 2-8 in their last ten games. With the loss Philadelphia now has a record of 63-32. Halladay(14-7) escaped virtually unscathed against the Yardley hitters. He gave up just no hits and 1 walk in 8 innings. The pitchers took over after the 2nd inning as neither team was able to score again. Joakim Soria preserved the game for Halladay, recording his his 26th. C.J. Wilson(5-11) took the loss. He allowed 2 runs and 7 hits in 8 innings. For Cherry Hill, the victory kept their winning streak on the march. Joe Girardi was upset but philosophical about the loss. 'Sometimes you run into a team that's on a roll. This was one of those times.'
