The deciding run was scored by Toronto in the top of the 8th. Vernon Wells drew a walk. Carlos Santana next to the plate and he drew a walk. Evan Longoria followed, but he was set down on strikes. Hideki Matsui was up next and he lined a single to load the bases. Alexi Casilla came up to bat and worked the squeeze play to perfection. Ichiro Suzuki added to the uprising and was walked intentionally to load the bases. Brandon League(2-1) got relief help from Rivera who was excellent in relief and gained credit for his 18th save. Ubaldo Jimenez(13-4) took the loss. He surrendered 7 hits and 5 walks in 7 innings. Evan Meek(3-3) looked good in relief and was the winning pitcher. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 1 hit and 1 walk in 2 and 1/3 innings. Detroit out-hit Oakland for the game, 14 hits to 6. Jason Hammel(5-13) was the loser. He was hit hard and gave up 13 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings. Detroit continued their winning ways, seemingly unable to lose during this stretch. Wall St took the lead for keeps in the 4th inning scoring a single run on 3 hits. Overall Wall St out-hit Baltimore 15 to 6. Tim Hudson(14-6) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 and 2/3 innings and allowing 1 run. Nelson Figueroa recorded his 1st save. Chris Volstad(2-10) ended up with the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 15 hits and 4 walks in 8 innings. The game started off with Minnesota taking the lead in the first scoring 3 runners on 2 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Torii Hunter who made the Minnesota fans a happy lot when he launched a three-run homer. Joba Chamberlain pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 3rd save. Colby Lewis(6-11) went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs for the victory. Matt Garza(6-10) was the losing pitcher. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 6 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings. CINCINNATI AT COLORADO Blue Bombers.... 0 2 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 - 3 10 0 Eskimos......... 0 1 0 0 0 4 0 1 - 6 11 1 Win:Garland(6-9) Loss:Norris(4-8) Save:Chacin(3rd) Homeruns- J.Jay(2nd) Designated hitter Aramis Ramirez had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Coors Field where the dominant Colorado Eskimos beat the lifeless Cincinnati Blue Bombers 6 to 3. Colorado scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning when they had 5 base hits. They would prove to be the difference in the contest. Colorado banged out 11 hits on the night. The win was credited to Jon Garland(6-9) who went 7 innings allowing 2 runs. Garland got help from Jhoulys Chacin who earned his 3rd save. Bud Norris(4-8) was hit with the loss. The Colorado ballclub's record now stands at 60-34. Cincinnati can't seem to snap out of their recent 'funk'. Now they have a miserable 1-9 record over the last couple weeks.
WASHINGTON AT SEA ISLE Alouettes....... 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 - 0 3 0 Seagulls........ 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 - 1 5 0 Win:Latos(10-6) Loss:Floyd(4-13) Mat Latos allowed only 3 hits resulting in a big goose egg on the scoreboard for Washington as the Sea Isle Seagulls bested the Washington Alouettes 1 to 0 at PNC Park. Latos(10-6) was simply too much for the Washington batters. He allowed only 3 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. Latos chalked up 12 strikeouts lowering his ERA to 3.85. Washington proved to be no trouble in the 9th. Gavin Floyd(4-13) was charged with the loss. He surrendered 1 run and 5 hits in 8 innings. John Russell was asked about the performance of Latos, 'He had his good stuff out there tonight. The fans really get into it when the strikeouts start mounting up - and that seems to give him even more adrenalin.' ATLANTA AT PHILADELPHIA Prohibitioners.. 0 3 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 - 4 6 0 Phranks......... 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 - 2 7 2 Win:Billingsley(5-10) Loss:Lincecum(8-6) Save:Soriano(15th) Homeruns- J.Upton(10th) In a tight game it was the Atlanta Prohibitioners 4, the Philadelphia Phranks 2 at Citizen's Bank Park. Atlanta scored 3 runs in the decisive 2nd inning. Andre Ethier led off and started the attack as he drew a walk. Colby Rasmus was the next batter, but he struck out. Aubrey Huff then drew a walk. After another out, Tim Lincecum came to bat and unleashed a wild pitch. Buster Posey stepped into the box and lined a base-hit, and an error was also committed. Chipper Jones joined his teammates in the uprising and doubled. That was all the runs Chad Billingsley(5-10) needed. Philadelphia threatened in the 9th but Atlanta was able to put down the rally. Rafael Soriano preserved the game for Billingsley, recording his his 15th. Lincecum(8-6) suffered the loss. Despite losing, he struckout 12 Atlanta batters in 9 innings. 'I had a little blister on my index finger before the game, but I thought it was nothing.' Billingsley said. 'I was lucky I got a win because I couldn't put the ball where I wanted it.' Cherry Hill had 3 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 2nd inning when they had 3 base hits. The early run support proved sufficient for C.C. Sabathia(12-6) and Cherry Hill. That was all the run support Sabathia required. Yardley could do no damage in the 9th. Joakim Soria earned his 27th save. Felix Hernandez(10-9) was charged with the loss. For Cherry Hill, it was just another victory in their mounting winning streak. 'Everything seems to be going right for us' said Ozzie Guillen. 'I've got the easiest job in the league right now!'
