Toronto came up with the deciding runs in the bottom of the 9th inning scoring 2 runs using 2 hits. After two outs J.J. Hardy started the attack as he laced a single. John Jaso next to the plate and he popped a two-run clout over the fence making Toronto the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. Toronto had 7 hits for the night. Brian Duensing(4-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 and 2/3 innings and allowing no runs. David Price(7-8) took the loss. Toronto now has a record of 60-51. Yardley has a record of 56-55 after the loss. Soriano had a big day at the plate. He bombed a two-run dinger in the 2nd inning, doubled in the 4th inning and doubled knocking in a run in the 6th inning. Sea Isle went down without a fight in the 9th. Adam Wainwright(12-7) picked up the victory, allowing 6 runs in 7 innings. Tim Stauffer earned the save, his 6th. Clayton Kershaw(16-4) was charged with the loss. Detroit claimed the early lead in the first inning as they scored 3 runs on 3 base hits. That early scoring was all that Weaver(14-7) needed. Detroit had a total of 10 hits for the game. The losing pitcher was Edwin Jackson(5-17). He got hit pretty hard, allowing 10 hits and 4 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings. OAKLAND AT BOSTON Roughriders..... 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 - 0 4 0 Stranglers...... 0 0 0 2 0 0 1 0 - 3 7 0 Win:Cahill(11-8) Loss:Narveson(8-8) Save:Bailey(15th) Trevor Cahill went 8 strong innings at Fenway Park as the Boston Stranglers beat the floundering Oakland Roughriders 3 to 0. Cahill(11-8) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Oakland hitters. He didn't allow much, just 3 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings. Boston had 7 hits for the game and Oakland had 4. Andrew Bailey earned his 15th save. Chris Narveson(8-8) was tagged with the loss. Wth the win Boston now has a record of 56-56. Still in a bad slump, with this loss, Oakland is 1-9 lately and 34-81 on the year. Cain had a solid outing for Wall St. He went 6 and 2/3 innings surrendering 4 hits and 3 walks. Cain mowed down 7 Washington batters dropping his ERA from 4.66 to 4.46. Both teams' bats went to sleep after the 1st inning with no runs scored after that point. Cain got help from Chris Perez who earned his 17th save.

The game started off with Minnesota taking the lead in the first when they scored 2 runs on 2 hits. Atlanta had a chance in the 9th but they came up short. The victory was credited to Cliff Lee(15-2) who went 8 and 1/3 innings, allowing 3 runs. David Aardsma gained credit for his 10th save. Bronson Arroyo(7-14) was the loser. Tommy Hanson(13-5) pitched okay, well enough for the win. He allowed 11 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings. Baltimore was out-hit by Philadelphia, 15 hits to 11. Billy Wagner got the save, his 29th. Mitchell Boggs(0-4) absorbed the loss in relief. He surrendered 2 runs and 3 hits in 1 and 1/3 innings. Sanchez(13-6) delivered a fine performance for Sunshine State. He surrendered 8 hits and 4 walks in 9 innings and surrendered 2 'long-bombs'. Sunshine State managed 9 hits in their victory. Ervin Santana(2-5) was tagged with the loss. Sanchez was pleased with his performance. He noted, 'I had good zip on my pitches. Just as important, my location was right on. The fans really got into the game too - that always helps me. Now, if I can only do that again in my next outing.'
