Matt Wieters stepped up next and he lined a base-hit. Jose Bautista then was hit by a pitch. Austin Jackson followed and he laced a single. Jackson was running on the next pitch and he stole second. Robinson Cano kept the inning going and was walked intentionally to load the bases. Toronto was set down quietly in the bottom of the 11th. Joaquin Benoit(4-1) went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Matt Capps(3-4) was the losing pitcher in relief. He gave up 2 hits and no walks in 2 and 2/3 innings. Oswalt(16-3) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Sea Isle hitters. He didn't allow much, just 4 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. Colorado managed 12 hits in their victory. Mike Pelfrey(9-7) was the loser. He allowed 4 homeruns in 7 innings of work. 'I thought it was my best performance in a long time,' said Oswalt. 'I had good command early in the game. I had my control and composure and everything went well.' Detroit claimed the early lead in the first inning when they came up with 6 runs on 5 hits. That early scoring held up. Detroit bats were hot in the 1st inning with 6 runs on 5 hits and the 6th inning when they had 8 runs on 6 hits. Cincinnati was out-hit by Detroit, 17 hits to 8. Carl Pavano(10-7) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 innings and allowing 1 run. Randy Wells(6-13) suffered the loss. He pitched 2/3 of an inning allowing 5 hits and 2 walks. Detroit now has a record of 63-50. Dusty Baker was unhappy with his club's recent performance. 'We can't keep losing games' he said. 'It gets to be embarrassing after a while.' Gonzalez had a good day at the plate. He hit a single which scored a run in the 2nd inning, doubled in the 7th inning and lofted a three-run bomb in the 8th inning. Boston banged out 11 hits on the afternoon. It was the 3rd shutout of the year for Liriano(7-6). Jake Westbrook(4-17) was charged with the loss. The Boston ballclub's record now stands at 57-56. Oakland continued their losing ways and their record is now 34-82. They are 1-9 in their last ten games.

The Wall St fans enjoyed the offense provided by Fielder. He delivered a base-hit in the 2nd inning, doubled which brought home a run in the 4th inning and launched a rocket-shot out of the park for a Grand Slam homerun in the 6th inning. Due to a poorly pitched ballgame, scoring in 5 different innings was still not enough for Washington to come away with the victory. The win was credited to Dallas Braden(16-3) who went 5 and 1/3 innings allowing 7 runs. Mark Buehrle(6-15) ended up with the loss. Wall St knocked him around a bit, as he gave up 7 runs in 3 and 1/3 innings. Atlanta tallied 4 runs in the top of the 5th inning with the help of 3 hits. It was enough scoring to earn the victory. Minnesota had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short. Anibal Sanchez(10-9) got the win allowing 4 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings. The losing pitcher was Fausto Carmona(11-9). He allowed Atlanta 7 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings of work. Wandy Rodriguez(13-4) went 5 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the win. Billy Wagner earned the save, his 30th. Clayton Richard(3-15) was the loser. 'Some losses are harder to take than others' Buck Showalter lamented after the game. 'This was one of them.'
