Jose Bautista enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He doubled resulting in a run in the 3rd inning, ripped a solo home run in the 5th inning and doubled in the 7th inning. Yardley totaled 16 hits on the night. Hughes(6-6), allowing 1 run for the game, picked up the victory. Clayton Richard(3-16) was charged with the loss. He was knocked around, surrendering 5 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings. Hughes was humble when questioned about his performance, 'Well, I felt pretty confident in my pitches tonight. But, I had great support behind me and I just threw what was called. That was an extremely well called game!' Ortiz provided the offensive punch. He laced a single which scored a run in the 1st inning, banged out a one-base hit in the 4th inning, slapped a base-hit knocking in a run in the 5th inning and belted a three-run homer in the 9th inning. Toronto was out-hit by Boston, 19 hits to 10. Francisco Liriano(8-6) allowed 2 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the victory. Johan Santana(10-9) absorbed the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 8 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings. DETROIT AT MINNESOTA 40s............. 0 2 2 2 0 1 1 4 0 - 12 20 0 Snow Birds...... 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 - 0 8 0 Win:Pavano(11-7) Loss:Carmona(11-10) Homeruns- B.Butler(10th) Carl Pavano hurled a fine complete game shutout and Billy Butler had 4 hits and 6 RBI at Target Field as the seemingly unstoppable Detroit 40s embarrassed the slumping Minnesota Snow Birds by the lopsided score of 12 to 0. Butler was unconscious all day. The Minnesota fans hated to see him approaching the batter's box as he just kept delivering base hits! He stroked a single which brought home a run in the 2nd inning, doubled bringing home two baserunners in the 3rd inning, ripped a one-base hit in the 7th inning and launched a three-run homer in the 8th inning. Detroit kept the scorekeepers busy in the 8th inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 4 hits. Detroit had many opportunities throughout the game and scored in 6 separate innings. Pavano(11-7) was credited with the shutout. Fausto Carmona(11-10) was tagged with the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 14 hits and 5 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings. COLORADO AT SEA ISLE Eskimos......... 0 0 0 0 1 2 0 0 1 - 4 9 1 Seagulls........ 2 0 1 0 2 2 0 0 - 7 10 0 Win:Pelfrey(10-7) Loss:Oswalt(16-4) Save:Wilson(22nd) Homeruns- A.Dunn(26th), T.Colvin(25th) At PNC Park the Sea Isle Seagulls outscored the Colorado Eskimos 7 to 4. Sea Isle drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning when they came up with 2 runs on 2 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Geovany Soto who elicited a roar from the hometown fans when he doubled which was good for two runs. Sea Isle managed 10 hits in their victory. Mike Pelfrey(10-7) got the win allowing 4 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings. Pelfrey got help from Brian Wilson who earned his 22nd save. The losing pitcher was Roy Oswalt(16-4).
SUNSHINE STATE AT CINCINNATI Stalkers........ 4 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 2 0 1 - 8 12 2 Blue Bombers.... 1 0 2 0 2 0 2 0 0 0 0 - 7 15 0 Win:Bell(2-2) Loss:Mujica(1-2) Homeruns- M.Prado(9th), B.Phillips(7th), M.Ramirez(13th), J.Cust(14th) Martin Prado left the yard and had 3 RBI as the Sunshine State Stalkers defeated the struggling Cincinnati Blue Bombers in 11 innings by a score of 8 to 7 at Great American Bpk. Both teams had scored 7 runs after nine full innings. Sunshine State came out on top in the 11th inning. After an out was recorded, Brandon Phillips cracked a solo homerun. One out later, Kevin Youkilis struck out, unable to help the rally. Although they lost, Cincinnati did out-hit Sunshine State 15 to 12. The winning pitcher was Heath Bell(2-2) who allowed no runs in 2 innings. Edward Mujica(1-2) took the loss in relief. With this win, Sunshine State has a 78-43 record. They have been 7-3 lately. Cincinnati continued their losing ways and their record is now 31-87, worst in the division. They are 1-9 in their last ten games. The final score was the Atlanta Prohibitioners 4, the Wall St Millionaires 3 in 12 innings. The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings. Atlanta ended up winning it in the 12th inning. Casey Blake clubbed a solo home run making Atlanta the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. Atlanta had 12 hits overall, while Wall St had 6. Takashi Saito(2-2) went 3 innings allowing no runs for the victory. The loss was charged to Kyle McClellan(2-7) in relief. Atlanta now has a record of 55-62. Wall St has a record of 70-47 after the loss. Washington came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs utilizing 3 base hits. After an out was recorded, Jeff Francoeur got things rolling when he singled. Ty Wigginton followed and he doubled. After another out, Jonny Gomes came to bat and drew a walk. Ian Stewart followed next and he tripled. Washington banged out 11 hits on the night. Huston Street(3-6) went 1 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the win. Sean Burnett(1-1) was charged with the loss in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an inning allowing 1 hit and 1 walk. 'I pin this one on my own shoulders,' Burnett said. 'The bottom line is I didn't get the job done. Our fans deserve better than this.'
