In the bottom of the 5th inning Baltimore scored 3 runs when they came up with 3 base hits. The critical plate appearance was by Ramos who came through for the home fans when he doubled bringing in two baserunners. Baltimore had 11 hits for the night. The winning pitcher was Justin Masterson(5-16) who allowed 2 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings. Masterson was helped out by Francisco Cordero who recorded his 9th save. Ted Lilly(12-9) ended up with the loss. He got hammered, allowing 9 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings. 'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his best stuff,' Buck Showalter said after the game. 'Masterson did not have command of his pitches most of the night, but he proved he really knew how to pitch!' TORONTO AT SEA ISLE Argonauts....... 0 1 2 0 0 0 0 0 0 - 3 6 0 Seagulls........ 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 - 1 3 0 Win:Romero(18-10) Loss:Johnson(9-8) Save:Rivera(31st) Homeruns- V.Wells(30th), S.Rodriguez(8th), C.Gonzalez(27th) Vernon Wells blasted a homerun and Ricky Romero whiffed 11 batters at PNC Park as the Toronto Argonauts beat the floundering Sea Isle Seagulls by the count of 3 to 1. Romero(18-10) gave Toronto a solid outing. He was reached for 3 hits and 3 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings. The pitchers took over after the 4th inning as neither team was able to score again. Romero got help from Mariano Rivera who earned his 31st save. Josh Johnson(9-8) was hit with the loss. Romero was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little odd when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers and a running tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet. Just strange - but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the game.' Wilson mowed down 14 Colorado batters as the seemingly unstoppable Yardley Oaks beat the Colorado Eskimos by a score of 5 to 1. Wilson(10-13) looked very much in control throughout the night. He allowed only 3 hits and 5 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings reducing his ERA from 4.30 to 4.10. Matt Thornton relieved and was untouched by Colorado as he recorded the save, his 9th. The losing pitcher was Livan Hernandez(13-9). The Yardley fans were thrilled by the performance put forth by Wilson, but it was clearly his strikeouts that they enjoyed most. 'When he reached 10 strikeouts the fans showed him their appreciation with a loud cheer.' Joe Girardi said following the game. Talbot(6-20) was on top of his game. He didn't allow much, just 5 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. Cincinnati rapped out 10 hits for the night. Brett Cecil(6-16) took the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 9 innings. 'Our guys just weren't seeing the ball tonight.' Bob Geren said. 'Talbot simply dominated us.'
WALL ST AT WASHINGTON Millionaires.... 2 2 0 0 0 3 0 0 0 - 7 12 0 Alouettes....... 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 - 0 3 0 Win:Kennedy(12-5) Loss:Penny(0-2) Center fielder Andrew McCutchen had 4 hits and 2 RBI and Ian Kennedy allowed only 3 hits resulting in a big goose egg on the scoreboard for Washington at Nationals Park where the very strong Wall St Millionaires beat the pitiful Washington Alouettes by the score of 7 to 0. Kennedy(12-5) simply dominated Washington. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 3 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. Kennedy struckout 13 Washington batters. Wall St banged out 12 hits on the night. Brad Penny(0-2) was given the loss. He was touched for 11 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings. Kennedy was obviously very pleased with his performance in the aftermath of the game, 'It was just one of those games where everything worked. My arm felt great, heck, I could have pitched another two or three innings. I only hope that I can do it again next time out!' MINNESOTA AT BOSTON Snow Birds...... 0 0 2 0 2 0 0 0 0 - 4 8 2 Stranglers...... 0 0 2 2 0 0 0 1 - 5 12 0 Win:Liriano(10-7) Loss:Danks(9-14) Save:Bailey(18th) The Boston Stranglers nipped the Minnesota Snow Birds 5 to 4 at Fenway Park in a hard fought contest. The deciding run was scored by Boston in the bottom of the 8th. Adrian Gonzalez banged out a single. Marcus Thames was the next batter, but he struck out. After another out, Francisco Cervelli stepped up to the plate and he lashed a single. Mike Aviles stepped in and he delivered a one-base hit. Minnesota threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short. Francisco Liriano(10-7) went 8 and 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs for the victory. Liriano got help from Andrew Bailey who was credited with his 18th save. John Danks(9-14) was tagged with the loss. He allowed 11 hits and 2 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings. 'It's a disheartening loss, no question about it' said Ron Gardenhire 'But we have to get over it and get ready for the next game.' PHILADELPHIA AT DETROIT Phranks......... 0 1 1 0 5 0 3 0 0 - 10 20 0 40s............. 1 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 - 2 3 2 Win:Cueto(5-4) Loss:Pavano(11-10) Homeruns- O.Infante(10th) Omar Infante cracked a homer and had 2 RBI and Johnny Cueto tossed a fine 3 hitter as the Philadelphia Phranks topped the Detroit 40s by a score of 10 to 2 at Comerica Park. Philadelphia tallied 5 runs in the 5th inning with the help of 7 hits. The biggest moment was provided by Joey Votto who deflated the mood of the partisan fans when he doubled scoring two baserunners. Philadelphia bats were very productive in the 5th inning which saw them score 5 runs on 7 hits. Philadelphia managed 20 hits in their victory. Cueto(5-4) finished the game allowing 2 runs in the victory. The loss was charged to Carl Pavano(11-10). He allowed Philadelphia 6 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings of work. 'When Cueto is on like that it is a tough game to play, no doubt about it,' Jim Leyland said. 'He always pitches well against us.'

Teixeira had a good evening at the plate. He delivered a base-hit in the 1st inning, blasted a solo shot in the 4th inning and cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the 6th inning. Sunshine State had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short. The win went to C.C. Sabathia(17-7) who allowed 3 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings. Joakim Soria earned the save, his 39th.
